I wish this would have happened a couple of months ago. I paid $1200 for an 18" DVI.

Great Deal!

looks like it might be made by Sceptre - compare it to the 19" Sceptre on sale on the same site. if so, is that a good lcd? the stats look pretty good...

I've been eyeing this one for a while. I wish it had higher resolution though. I'd read somewhere that Sharp or Samsung just quad their manufacturing capacity. I think that he next few months we'll see much lower prices and higher resolution models coming out. I think I'll try to wait it out for a few more months.

Exactly what I was thinking!:)
I've been debating whether to get a 17-in analog LCD now, or wait a while for a bigger one with DVI. It's not an easy decision either way...:(

According to Anand and others, there were a lot of manufacturers showing 19-inch 1600x1200 res LCDs that will be coming out this year. IMO, 1280x1024 is too small for a 19 in lcd.

Also...LCD's with as low as 10ms response times will be coming out within the next 6-8 months...which means up to 100 FPS with no ghosting effects.

The cheaper versions of these LCD's will have 15-20ms response times...or approx. 67 to 50 FPS with no ghosting.

I'm waiting for about 8 months or so...prices are supposed to be a dropping a ton over the next year due to implementation of new fabrication technology (thank you IBM), higher manufacturing volumes, and [therefore] increased competition (I believe someone already mentioned some of these facts).

At that time...I'll buy a nice 20-22" UXGA 10-15ms screen (maybe widescreen) for about $1200-1500.

So should I wait until August to buy an LCD monitor? Because I definitely need one before I move into my dorm

It is a Sceptre. If you click on the LCD to get the enlarged view you will see it says Sceptre on the bottom of the LCD in gray letters.
I got a few of these for customers and they are very please with this LCD on Radeon 7500's digital outs.

good catch rainguy. so have you seen these in action? do your customers LIKE like them?

the other question is who actually makes this lcd? stat for stat it seems to match that planar in the link above, and the case is very similar to boot. looks like they moved the controls, but other than that very similar.

later,

I just bought one of these last week. I like it a lot although I do notice ghosting in Counter-Strike. Ghosting is NOT present in any other game, whether it be OpenGL or D3D based. Go figure?

mmm - did you get the sceptre or the no-name (also a sceptre)? CS is based on half-life which is based on quake, right? do you get ghosting w/ quake? how 'bad' is the ghosting in CS?

i still see the no-name at 799.99 on that site.

some news - i got confirmation (email) from justdeals.com that the no-name is a sceptre, and the sceptre warranty would apply to it.

Nice, but native resolution is just too high on that monitor. I am currently running an 18" LCD with my 21" CTR and at 1280x1024, it's starting to get to the point of squinting. I'm not squinting now, but if an extra inch means 1600x1200, that is just too small for text. :(

Just switch to large fonts on your display properties
