**UPDATED 8/16** Mazda announces U.S. pricing for MX-5 Power Retractable Hard Top
We reported earlier that Mazda's own North American website revealed that the price of the MX-5 Power Retractable Hard Top would start below $25,000, and Mazda has stayed true to its word. Dave Thomas over at KickingTires is reporting that the price will begin at a very reasonable $24,350, which makes this MX-5 the least expensive retractable hard top convertible on the market by far. The Pontiac G6 Convertible held that title for a short while with a base price of $28,490, but no more. Whereas the soft-top MX-5 starts at $20,435 for a Club Spec model, the MX-5 Power Retractable Hard Top begins as an upmarket Sport model with a six-speed manual or auto transmission and larger 17-inch wheels. DT did the math and since a soft-sport model starts at $22,935, that means the hard top hardware only costs buyers an additional $1,415.

to be honest- not that impressed.

if it's big selling feature is a price-point and that retractable hard top, giant 🙁 from me, but I guess I can see plenty of yuppies sitting at the traffic light in their little miata's mashing the open-close button in futile attempt to impress a generation spoiled by benz's and lexus sc430 who see nothing except a rebadged 25k ford with a gimmick.

😕

the miata is not a rebadged ford at all...

ford didn't do an ounce of engineering on this vehicle.

A little ricey looking, but still looks really good. My dad used to have a '92 miata in the classic red color. Awesome car, but too unsafe. He recently upgraded to a '01 BMW Z3. I'll show him this though, he'll get a kick out of the hard top.

I kind of like it 🙂 Doesn't add too much weight either, only 37kg. Not bad at all. I am disappointed to see another little car getting fatter though 🙁 It's been the trend with EVERYTHING. When the BMW 3 series first came out the curb weight was around 2300lbs or so. Now it's up over 3klbs 🙁 I fear a similar fate for the MX-5 wich I believe would have a negative impact on the fun feel of the car.

You don't HAVE to buy the RHT.

1990 NA Miata: 2126
2007 NC Miata: 2441

I wouldn't call 17 years and a little over 300 pounds bad for a car considering all the safey advances.

To make it a little more fair, the last NA (with dual airbags and side guard door beams, etc) weighed 2293 pounds

Can't wait for MazdaSpeed Version

Could you just imagine this car with the MS3/MS6 2.3 DI Turbo4? OMG, 264HP and 280 lb-ft.

**Uncontrollable drooling**

I can sure imagine it. This would certainly get rid of the "woman's car" rep.

Best looking Miata by far. If the new roadsters from GM weren't so awesome I'd be in the market for a Miata instead of a Solstice.
