where can i find these beautiful icons AND use them for win2k? Doesn't win2k only allow the standard 16x16 icons?

I dunno, but I'd like to find out, too. I don't like icons, but if they look really nice on my desktop, I may try them out at least.

I think Mac's have the best icons, so I usually convert Mac Icons to PC. Dent Icons are also pretty cool, all depends on your particular taste.

OK, here's how I got My Desktop to look so cool with huge fat icons.

Step 1: Download icons from Deviant Art
Windows Icons can be found here
Sort by FAVORITES (make sure you also select "Icons -- Windows" in the other tab too before clicking on search otherwise you'll get ALL favorites)
Make sure the description says the icons come in 64x64.

Step 2: Keep icons in a safe place. I have a special directory for all of them so they don't get lost.

Step 3: Edit your Registry. Open RegEdit, and edit this key: My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Icon Size
It should be set normally at 32, change it to 64. If you want MacOSX size icons go ahead and put it at 128, but I am warning you now, you'll have troulble finding icons that big and it makes your desktop look REALLY wierd.

Step 4: Right click / Properties on all your desktop icons and change them to the icons you just downloaded. Some icons will be in library files so change the file filter to ALL FILES otherwise you might not see them.

There you go, kids. have fun.

This will allow you to view XP type icons in Win2k?

Do you guys know of any program that will extract icons from the mac .hqx format? I can't find any 🙁

haven't found one yet, but that "Icon Packager" by Object Desktop seems to be rather invaluable. It works like that of microsoft plus's themes and changes all the icons for you at once. The linky for it is within the mmicons.com site i think.

What program(s) are you running to show the system and weather info on the right?

THIS is from today's friday desktop thread where they post their desktop pics and what's on it. Should be all the info you need in the first post.

Is there any way to just change the size of the desktop icons? Its really annoying having the start menu icons huge.

you can fix that in your start menu options. In most, i think you goto start, settings, start menu and click "show small icons in your start menu". If i remember, it's in the same spot on every windows os, so....

it beats having to use those huge icons. You get used to it...otherwise, decrease your resolution.
