I downloaded the directx 9.0c from Microsoft and installed that with the 61.77 (ps 3.0 supported drivers) from Nvidia (I use 6800 GT).

Far Cry crawled to a hault almost... tried old drivers (61.76) and far cry was still slow.... Directx 9.0c slows down far cry on my system????

Anyone else?

p.s. I used driver cleaner, et... When I installed old direct x (system restore).. everything was quick again???

Does the 9.0c only help if we are using far cry patch 1.2? (I'm using 1.1). Am I doing something wrong?

UPDATE! I wrote this to Nitro Mullet in a different thread: (do you think my chipset drivers were the culprit? do I need to have those when running driver cleaner? if this was the case is there a setting in driver cleaner 3.2 that won't wipe these out? I used Nvidia)

Hey Nitro,

I could install the beta... just don't like to do that? What I did was:

downloaded 9.0c & 61.77 (I was running 9.0b & 61.76)
unintalled the drivers from add remove programs & rebooted
ran driver cleaner 3.2 and rebooted (chose Nvidia from driver cleaner menu) & rebooted
(just thought of something, would the cleaner delete my Nvidia drivers for my chipset NF3-250???)
installed 9.0c & rebooted
installed 61.77 and rebooted
after the slowdown I uninstalled & driver cleaned the 61.77
installed 61.76 and found still slow
uninstalled & driver cleaned 61.76
did system restore to make it go back to 9.0b

Do you think it could have been my chipset drivers that were restored with the restore along witht he directx? I thought there was another option, besided Nvidia to clean the chipset software?

there is its called Nvidia chipset drivers. THere is

Nvidia Chipset
Nvidia stereo
and
Nvidia.

All you should clean out is Nvidia if you want to get rid of graphics drivers.

shouldnt...

i used drivecleaner the other night to clean off my graphics drivers and it did not touch my NF250GB drivers, I had no problems whats so ever with that.

granted though... I am using the dx9.0c from the SP2 RC2 patch (which is the same build as the release two days ago, i think).

Your steps seem fine for the installation order... dunno try it again and see what happens, :)

Ok, I'll try again tonight. :( I don't know what happened? I did choose Nvidia so it shouldn't have touched the chipset drivers. Very strange that I am the only one that had this problem...

BTW running version 1.1 of the game not 1.2 as it was pulled before I received my card.

When you actually uninstlled the drivers in add remove did you select to only remove the display drivers or everything?

I think I may have uninstalled everything? I remember getting a dialog box and there wasn't an option, that I saw, for just "graphics" or "video"?

Ughh so it may have been that step that unintalled my chipset drivers? I remember when I rebooted it game me like 5 or 6 messages that it found new hardware???

I can't install the updated 9.0c & 61.77 again until Friday at the earliest. I had deleted the downloads after I was unsuccessful the first time. Last night there was a storm (central Florida :roll;) that downed my cable. The cable is backup but the modem is dead even after repeated attempts to reboot it (power on and off, etc..) The cable company should have someone checking the line to our neighborhood Friday :(

When it rains it pours.

To select just the display drives you have to click the option to select certain drivers. You probably did the one that uninstalls all of them. When you rebooted it should have only found 2 devices 1 for each out put VGA and DVI. Not 6 I would say that was probably your sound, nic, chipset, both display's and some other one Ican't think of at the moment. GL once your internet is back up.

Hi JBT,

Thank you for the help. I will try that as soon as my internet connection is functioning at home again. My laptop (work) blocks all downloads of drivers / executables / etc.. :(

p.s. Don't move to Florida in the summer if you don't want continual interruptions due to thunderstorms :p

JBT,

Good news.. the cable company called me after they repaired their line problems. I donwloaded all the updates and this time uninstalled ONLY the display drivers instead of all Nvidia drivers (chipset). Everything loaded and went smoothly.

No more problems. Just the error of a noob that is still learning.

cool good to here you are all set. It sucks when you are not use to things but the good thing with computesr is you can just wipe them clean and start over again. :D
