**UPDATE** YAET(SO): What kind of feedback would you leave?

Yet Another eBay Thread (Sort Of):

I ordered a CD from a seller on Half.com - The Used's self-titled album, if you were wondering. It's brand new, still shrink-wrapped, but from a private reseller rather than a retailer.

The CD came today (only four days after I ordered; he shipped first class, and I only paid for media mail), but the case is cracked. I have no doubt that this happened during shipping (the CD was shipped in a bubble-padded envelope), but I am not sure what kind of feedback to leave.

On one hand, the CD was shipped VERY quickly and got here MUCH faster than was required (and faster than I expected). On the other hand, the case is cracked.

What would you do?

UPDATE: I did what I said I'd do - I left very positive feedback and emailed him about the case. The email was very nice - I basically just said I wanted to let them know about it, but it was no problem and not their fault. I got an email back asking me if I wanted a new case, shipped free! Of course, I declined - it's really not a big deal. Case closed. :)

You know that it's the shipper's fault - why blame him for the lousy shipping? When he sent the item at the time, it was in perfect condition - I'd still say give him a positive rating.

Cases are cheap as hell. It got there in otherwise perfect condition (apart from the case). Leave the guy positive.

The case has absoloutely NOTHING to do with the playability of the cd.

Good point - I was pretty much set on leaving positive, but do you think I should mention the cracked case in my comments?

It could have happened during shipping. A bubble-padded envelope isn't going to be foolproof if the postman steps on it and grinds his heel in or something.

In any case (heh), you should be able to pull the CD case apart and put the covers into a new CD case if you really need to. This is assuming that it's just a regular jewel case and not a special case created for that album.

EDIT: I'd leave him positive feedback and not get too worried about it...

No - maybe let the seller know by email, but not in the ratings - like I said, it's the shipper's fault and it might lookk like you're blaming the guy - the ratings are not private, you know.

Yep, standard case. I wouldn't mind at all, except it was advertised as brand new - and I guess it was, when it was shipped.

I think I'll leave him positive, and not mention the case in the comments - like you said, it's not the seller's fault. I'll email him to let him know he might want to use different mailers in the future.

It isn't that hard to replace a cracked case. Give him a positive rating, but just comment that he should pack the case better.

The only way you can be absoloutely sure that cases wont snap in shipping is if you fill the inside of the case with something. Otherwise, no matter how padded the envelope is, enough pressure will crack the case.

I wouldn't even care, I don't listen to the case. I'd care about as much if he shipped me a video card and the box was torn a little when I got it.

I would be pissed if someone left me negative feedback because of shipping damage, especially before contacting me. :|

You did the right thing.
