*UPDATE* Windows XP corruption error after 2.25GHz ????

I have been working on my new setup:
- IT7 MB with 1.8a all new from Newegg this week
- Artic Silver III
- Swiftech MCX-478 HS and Panaflo fan
- 1-GB PC2700 Samsung DDR
- 530 Antec True PSU

I can go to 2.25 easily and stable at the stock voltage with temps in the low 40's, case temps in the low 30's

However, anything higher and XP fails to start with an OS error. I lower FSB back down with speed at 2.25 and everything works great and benchmarks are rock solid.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

Make sure your PCI/AGP busses are locked, if that's possible on your board.

Thanks for the fast response!

The settings that I have to choose from are:

Ext. Clock/3
Ext. Clock/4
44MHz (fixed)
37MHz (fixed)
33MHz (fixed)

The default is Ext. Clock/3, but I have it manually set to Ext. Clock/4.

What setting would you suggest, possibly 44MHz (fixed)?

At 2.25 the pci is like 41mhz and a lot of harddrive will start having issues...watch for corruption....

Agp is generally 66mhz for 2xpci clock...but yes make the pci clock 33mhz....

You may need to give the vcore a slight nudge as well if you haven;t already....

Yes, I moved the vcore up to 1.625 last night with the same results. With a previous 1.8a, I was running at 2.52 and it was great. Just trying to get back to 2.5GHz and I will be happy ;)

I am running (2) Maxtor 40GB ATA133 drives in a RAID0 configuration off the onboard RAID controller of the IT7 MB for the OS. It worked great with the previous 1.8a but perhaps this new one is lacking in the OC capabilities.

Try up to 1.7v and see if it works....when they start needing my juice then vcore they go fast....

Also what are the memory ratio and timings?? Also specs on your ram....

Did you run the raid configuration with last chip???

Why did you get another 1.8 if the last one did 2.5ghz?? Just hoping for the 2.7ghz range??

Samsung 2700 DDR - 1GB
(2) 256MB CTL
(1) 512MB DTL (I know not as good as the CTL)
Settings are 2-2-2
None have heat spreaders, yet, waiting until the weekend.

I upped the vcore to 1.65 and I can now run at 2.44GHz and be stable. My GF4 4600 is set at 322/695. I am pretty pleased with the performance so far. However, I would like to see 2.5GHz or higher.

My first 1.8a processor crapped out on me last week for some reason. I am going to RMA it since it was a retail box purchase from Newegg.

edit
I also did a fresh load of XP tonight. That probably helped quite a bit as well.
Yes, I originally ran the RAID0 config, with a OS reload today anyway

I PM'd you....

What board are you running? 1.65v for a newer 1.8a for only 136fsb is low....Is that vcore bios setting? If so what is the actual as reported my mbm?

My 1.8a does 2.4ghz at 1.53v actual(lowest I can get to)...My epox undervolts .06-.07v....I use wire mod to set 1.7v to start with then back it off -.1v in the bios to 1.6v, and then ofcoure epox undervolts to 1.53v and under load it drops to 1.5v...quite the trail...I need the wire mod to even allow me anything higher then 1.58v...shitty Epox mobos!!!

I think 139fsb is reachable if you go to at least 1.7v...If board overvolts I would stop there!!! If it undervolts then you may have a few more notches left...Go up to 1.7v actual at idle max, IMO...
