not that i trust anything that gabe and the boys say but, i would bet that the release will probably be followed by updated nvidia drivers that even the score a bit

While I appreciate your cander here, we now have Final Release D3 benches. They are what they are. That article you pointed to just contains words. You know as well as I that we would need benches to see if the context of the article even comes close to holding water. 30% is a big boast, but we shall see eventually. Hopefully before the end of this year.
