Update....http://www.101study.com/ damn this guy is repeating the same thing with me....

I sold a Nokia 8260 on ebay and it was sold as-is and non-working...I got a few emails about shipping costs (in the auction says to be determined at auction end).....I stated at least $10 to those people....(didn't have a weight yet, and it's 3lbs actual).

So winning bidder contacts me on shipping after auction I tell him $10 (fedex is $6.27 actual and USPS 7.60 actual, fedex I need to box it and either way pad it....a box is about $1.99 and peanuts would add to maybe 50-75 cents for this.)......

He tells me he is taking a risk getting a bad phone (it was sold as bad) and shipping should be only $3.85 (impossible for this). He also is now suggesting I just take the battery and ear bud and stick it in an envelope...that should be just like a letter then.

Anyways like 20 emails since yesterday from this guy...his latest is thinking that it would be only $1.42 to ship a 5 Disc DVD set I charged someone $7 to ship (listed in another auction, he is investigating mine now that I showed him other nokia auctions with more shipping listed as well as his own purchases that high shipping was quoted in the auctions themselves (his claim is everyone only charged him about 1/2 what they stated, I have been on ebay a long time and never got a discount unless buying multiple items))....actually it cost me $7.47 for it to ship, not counting a new box and peanuts. On the whole deal I made 2 cents and still have to pay taxes on that sale.

I offered on the weekend if he were to pay by Monday (I had 20 packages to send) I'd do it for $7.50 in shipping (losing a dime) if I could just stick the nokia box in a priority box without padding. He didn't contact me until Tuesday.

This guy is a tool, he said if I file non-paying bidder he will leave a negative right away.

Any ideas?

Just hold out until the 89th and a half day, leave him with a negative and hope he doesn't get back to you in time.
At least, I think it's 90 days.

if your feedback is like 75++

file the npb, leave him a neg, and comment on the neg he left you

That is a bit high for shipping IMO, but if thats what you are paying then and you stated actual cost then you are in the right.

Whatever you decide, next time state the cost in the auction. Better to scare away people with the shipping cost than to deal with crap like this.

I stated actual cost with no handling fees, however now I need to rewrite that as one other guy thought boxes = handling fee. The way I look at it is, is that a box is a cost and a fee is just some amount I am charging for labor/profit....

I will get some quotes.

Maybe you could ship the phone (electronic media) + user manual via media mail, rates are very cheap. Make sure you put tracking on it because that's the kind of buyer who "won't receive" their package.

I usually put a number (best guess) for shipping in my auction text, usually pretty close to actual, sometimes a little off one way or the other, avoids this kind of stuff I think.

BTW don't you have any boxes/peanuts from online shopping you can re-use? I don't think I've ever paid for a shipping box.

That's why should always list S&H in the listing. It avoids the headache losers like this think they are entitled to create. You should have stated $12 (or some amount more than you knew it would cost) and be done with it. Besides, the other part of S&H is handling, which is a completely arbitrary amount, which you can set to what you deem necessary. Most people use this to recoup some Paypal and eBay fees, since this is the only way you can legally get away with it. Just don't spell that out.

Damn, how much does that thing weigh (or where is it going), that it's so expensive to ship? My guess would have been $4-5 tops via USPS Priority Mail w/DC, and they'll provide you the box.

Anyway, I would 1) file NPB, and 2) immediately leave him a negative. Why right away? Because if I see a negative on your feedback, I'll go check the other person's as well. If both have negatives - 1st one wins. 2nd is almost always retaliatory. State in your negative that it's for npb... Then when he leaves you one, comment on it as retaliatory from a npb. Anybody who deals with ebay much would not hesitate because of this. Now if you have a few/bunch of negs already or a real low feedback, you might think twice, and offer to let it go, IF he pays the money you are already out because of the list fees.

yeah, it's a lot easier to just put a blanket shipping charge, at the beginning of the auction. just guess how much it'd take to ship, then add $3-$5.

it might not be the 'nice guy' thing to do, but ebay isn't a nice guy place, and it prevents all of this stuff from happening.

Against the law to ship a phone electronic media....

No boxes left to use....if I go hunt a used box down it's still a cost to me....

This just came through ebay's service from him: "DO YOU SPEAK FRENCH? IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND MY ENGLISH THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM."

his response to me asking him to have someone perhaps explain what I am saying to him in the email: "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR ENGLISH IS BETTER THAN MINE."

Telling me 3lbs of shipping doesn't add up (33462 to 11218): "JUST GO TO USPS AND CHECK HOW MUCH THEY WILL CHARGE YOU THEN LET ME KNOW.THATS WHAT I HAVE TO PAY. I DON'T BUY YOUR STORIES."

Him thinking FedEx Ground on 3lbs is more $: "your shipping option is usps priority and fedex so don't force me thru fedex. beside this contract is good till 30 days to complete."

I have no idea: "what the usps bill you is what i have to pay why you have to charge me like other $15 or $20. as i said before why didn't you put the shipping cost you want before ended the peanut movie has shipping cost so don't give me excuse. "

???: "remember i can give you negative feedback. i'm trying to work out with you and you keep insisting. i said if you will put $7.50 for the stamp i will pay you for what it cost. i know why the other were unhappy as you said about your peanut movie deal because you charge too much on shipping cost $7.00 which is it cost you only $1.42 thru USPS why you insisting fedex you will going to post office anyway to cash the money order. if $3.20 is big deal for you then is your choice don't blame me later. if you lost single penny then you can relist this, not a problem with me i'm working out with you. try to learn how to use USPS web site don't look other shipping cost who inflate the amount unleast you are rip off artist. "

him explaining another guy gave him a discount on shipping: "you should have put how much shipping cost you want at least there is no question at all. is your mistake. just don't want this happen again paying $6.00 for other item i won is consideration which is they only pay $4.25 and now you asking me more which is cellphone alone. "

"I usually contacted seller before bidding but because it's just a few minutes before ended and your feedback is 100% i consider you don't inflate shipping cost like other. i usually sent money order even cash
why you should pay paypal? box is not a problem you could use the original box you have, gas? you are going there anyway to drop other package. $3.20 more for gas is too much. if you will put a $7.50 stamp on it
then it is fair. but is just you want to rip off somebody. why other asking only $4.30 shipping cost if they cost them more , this is with phone and adapter, yours is just the phone it self. i don't want you to lost even penny
for shipping this item that's why i ask you to relist. risking may $8.50 for non working i'll rather buy a good one for few more bucks. good luck."

him telling me this, item weighs 3lbs: "try to learn how to use usps web site i just when there and punch your zip code 33462 and may zip 11218 since i don't know how much it way i try 1 pound and it cost $3.85 for two pounds it cost me $5.05 base on priority mail, i don't think it way more than that."

First email, apparently non-working items ship more cheaply than working ones: "Hi, your ship rate is way too high. regular or ground is ok with me since this item is non working "

Boxes are free, find one.

Honestly shipping should not be more than $5-6 and thats shipped via airborne, etc. You could probably ship it for that at the post office too.

Theres no need to pad your profits in shipping. I find that if I charge realistic shipping, the bidding does and will go higher.

Well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I agree with the other person who said leave your negative first, then add comments to the negative you receive (if you get one) remarking that it's a retaliatory negative from a non-paying bidder.

I ship as part of my business. I can't go and find boxes nor will they honor insurance claims on reused boxes.

Two car heads I just shipped cost a total of $50 in packing supplies. Boxes and the like are not cheap. Across the board this year I came in at 25% loss on shipping ... there is no profit padding... you are assuming.

The package weighs 3lbs...USPS is 7.15 without confirmation, $7.60 with it. The extra is $2.40 to cover actual costs....

You know you could get a priority box for free, take the label or shipping address info with you along w/phone to post office, place in free priority box and have it weighed. I don't think it would cost much for you that way.

Yea...maybe. However, unless it was stated that the buyer would only pay actual shipping, Alkemyst should feel free to charge what he deems a reasonable amount for shipping & HANDLING. The buyer should stop crying and pay up and realize that it is always important to understand the shipping terms before you win an auction.

Just tell the buyer to forget about trying to figure exact shipping costs. The S&H cost is your shipping plus a reasonable handling fee, which includes the criteria you already mentioned. If he doesn't like it, too damn bad. He should have asked before bidding.

Can't you read the thread? Not only has he stated SEVERAL TIMES that the shipping via USPS priority is $7.xx, he's also posted the package weight, and the source and destination zip codes. Try plugging it in yourself to the usps.com rate calculator, it all checks out.

Look above....actual USPS charges for 3lbs were $7.60

It's a phone with manuals not just the phone itself.

If it's not 3lbs then the post office weighed it wrong.
