People who are considering this deal should tread carefully, in case they get locked into something worse than what's advertised.

The wording has changed on the linked webpage. Notice it doesn't say anything about "weekends and nights free". The page was down for awhile earlier today. I bet ATT straightened them out. You're only buying 1200 minutes a month folks. Still better then ATT's offer of 1000....

OK,

Heres the low down...been talking to the ATT GSM Dept for the past hour and they tell me that buy.com has basically messed up and mixed two of the GSM plans that ATT offers; the 34.99 and the 39.99 plans. They also said that buy.com cannot offer any plans that ATT cant (which makes perfect sense since ATT is the actual provider).

So basically its down to 34.99 ( 500 anytime and unlimted nights and weekends) or 39.99 (1000 anytime)

I also did talk to a couple of buy.com reps and they say that there has been a internal email circulated about the mess up and to inform customers that the published minutes cannot be guarenteed.

So basically the plan was way too good to be true.

But ya can still get in on the phone deal...I just did...get the phone and your $100 MIR and keep grinnin

I just checked the buy.com website and the unlimted nights/weekends is still listed on the phone plan details page.

"Nights & Weekend Minutes Unlimited"

Wow... there is a lot of 'phone fantasy' going on in this thread.

Come back down to earth, some of you. :)

All 'I' can see that really applies is what is on the buy.com website. The phone is free with that promotion AFTER a MIR.

If I am missing something, please, tell me where, and with pertinent/factual links. :)

Still, a very good deal, indeed.

-

Also, this is a service that more than one person has verified does not exist, except for a person that has said a CS rep said it would exist in the near future?

I have had AT&T CS outright lie to me on 3 seperate occassions, one which wound up costing me money. One time, they lied to me about aspects of the same deal 3 times in a row. I do not trust AT&T CS at all. (In fact, I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission over the one that costs me money.)

-

I really hope anyone ordering gets it. Seriously.

Anyway, from the shopping I have done lately, AT&T does not have the best deals. (I have not used every one's service, so I have to go buy word-of-mouth about that.) - The point... if this deal will be valid, you can bet someone else will beat it. But, of course, 'this thinking' is fantasy also, at this point.

-

BTW, no insult intended to anyone, and if 'you' get insulted, i apologize ahead of time.

I called up buy.com to verify this deal, asking them that I still get the phone for free, and on top of that, a $100 MIR. The rep was very nice, put me on hold for a minute, i assume he went and verified, came back and said yes, you get the MIR and the phone for free. Either way, I signed up. I have a t68i lying around with ATT sim, and i want to use that. I"ll sell this phone on Egay or give it to my dad and start a family plan.

True about AT&T not having the best deals, but I have friends on other carriers and their calls either sound terrible or their phones keep dropping calls. I do have to agree that you can get screwed by them if you're not careful. I've had to relocate my call area a couple of times and everytime I've ended up with a $200 bill that I have to call about and get straightened out. It's big hassle, but their quality of service makes me put up with.

And yes AT&T CS cannot be trusted they keep saying different things every time you call them, but usually you'll find an exceptional CS rep that will fix everything. Good luck with your claim.

Ok .. This is what I plan to do

Get the Nokia 8390 from buy.com for $0.00
Send in the MIR and get a check for $100.00

This is for existing ATT TDMA customers :

Once the phone comes in call in to ATT and do a migration from existing service to the GSM

Now the question is WILL THIS WORK?

no.. $100.00 requires new activation. if you migrate, they won't give you $100,

Argh......

This deal is getting so cold so fast .....

The insane plan went out the window.

Now the idea of making $100.00 off of this deal is also gone..

Well atleast can get the phone without forking out $100 up front.

This is getting so damn pathetic.......

OK...I spent over a freaking HOUR on the phone with the AT&T GSM/GPRS team...here's what they told me...

This offer is available only for NEW customer, not current customer. The plan is available from AT&T's mMode (I think that's what it was called) team. They called the group over there and verified Buy.com's deal, and from what the AT&T GSM/GPRS supervisor told me (her name was Pamela) it is 1200 minutes and unlimited nights and weekend. - So being that I don't know to believe AT&T, I asked what are the cancellation policy from both buy.com and AT&T wireless, since, once you buy from buy.com they pass you over to AT&T.

Cancellation policy - buy.com has a 30 day money back guarantee on the phone if you do want it. You will be out of the cost of shipping the phone back to them. at&t has a 30 day "buyer's remorse" that if you find within 30 days, that you don't like it or can't use it - you can cancel it without the termination fee (which is $175 if you cancel within 180 days + there might be some cost involved for the phone with buy.com). What I forgot to ask was if you get the $36 activation fee back...I don't feel like waiting another hour on the phone with them...so if someone else finds out please let me know.

My plan is to buy the phone and the service, try it out and see if it pans out, if not then politely discuss it with AT&T, and if that doesn't get me anywhere, then cancel within the 30 days. Just becareful about the 30 day window, since buy.com activates the phone right after they ship it to you - in other words, the phone comes to you preactivated.

Good luck everyone...thanks for the deal :)

Where is the "details" link please? Webpage now says "1000" minutes, not 1200. Has anyone gotten a guarentee on free weekend and nights?
