for those of you who are current at&t subscribers switching over to gsm. are you keeping your same plans that you already have? because you are referring to being grandfathered in with the 8pm nights but this gsm plan says 1200 anytime minutes...but also says unlimited nights and weekends below. so are these 1200 minutes peak minutes or anytime minutes? and do i need to call in before i order the phone to get verbal confirmation that i will maintain the 8pm nights starting time? thanks! i want to grab the t68i.

looks like this might be on the AT&T wireless website too? not sure if all the promotions can be applied there though...

http://www.attws.com/mobileinternet/charter.jhtml
There are all the charter member deals (500 anytime for $39.99 + 500 min anytime for one year = 1000 min)

http://www.attws.com/mobileinternet/specials.jhtml
Here is the unlimited nights and weekends + 200 min anytime for the life of the service

If both promotions can be applied then its the same as buy.com, and they have the nokia free after rebate also.

When any At&t customer switches over to GSM, they will lose the 8pm night and weekends. Sad but true.
If you want to keep it, stay with TDMA till they take it away from you.

I just signed up for AT&T GSM 3 days ago. and the plan at that time was for 500 anytime minutes and unlimited nites and weekends. Anyone know if I can switch to this 1200 minute plan?? or at least the advertised 1000 on the website? :(

crazy good deal if you live/work in a major city and don't travel at all. or when you do travel, you ONLY travel to the heart of major cities.

if you want to use this phone in Vancouver, WA don't bother. the map shows coverage there, even has the city of Vancouver labeled, but alas, 0 signal. it's amazing how localized the signal is.

in portland, OR it was full bars/signal. 10 miles later, nothing. zip, zero. no service.

i'm on AT&T's tdma network now.

The only place my little nokia has dropped calls was in the house (BUILT SOLID [none this new type 'cut-corners' construction]) and in Westlake Hills.

what is "grandfathered" when used in this context?

Just read on FW that someone called At&T and they told them there was no such plan and Buy.com must have screwed up. It would be cool if they were for forced to honor it though. Do I smell Hitachi monitor fiasco part 2 coming????

In this context it means like contract binding. I signed a contract that said a specific thing, and that's what I get, even it the rules change.

Are you on their new GSM? I'm also grandfathered on the old plan for an 8pm non-peak start. I'm currently on their $40 Regional Advantage plan (free nationwide roaming, free LD, unlimited n&w) but was looking to get their GSM service if it's any better. However, I don't want to lose my "benefits" of 8pm off-peak so I'm a little reluctant to change unless I get some more info about their new GSM plan.

Nope, I'm still on the old system. We have very good coverage here in Austin, TX. About every 5-7 miles there's a cell tower. So, I'm staying with this until they make me change over. I want to keep my early start and late end non-peak hours.

AT&T's GSM network SUCKS, there is no way around that statement, simply because they ARE building a new network, there are lot of dead zones and weak spots. BUT, it can't be worst than Sprint PCS ;)

I just don't like the tone of your voice, you sound just too sure of something you really don't know anything about. Contract binding? Do you know what that means?

Grandfathering when used in the context above means the company acknowldges you as a 'loyal' customer, and makes you happy by transferring some of the benifical terms from your expired (or soon to be due to a new contract) over to the NEW contract you are entering. Either that or the CS rep was nice and bent the rules or simply messed up.

Either way, there is nothing contract binding about what happened, simply a corporation making a small concession in an attempt to make more money, ATT could have changed the rules anyway they wanted when you began the new contract.

Man this sucks. It appears that the only way to contact buy.com about an existing order is via email or $9.95 toll phone call. Anyone know a way to speak with someone at buy.com with out paying the $9.95? If not buy.com may have just lost any future sales to me. This kind of customer service is not acceptable.
