Surfside Internet is now offering all of California residents unlimited 56k connection for only $87/year. I am currently a user and so far no problems. I also stay logged on usually 8-10 hrs no problem. The website has it at $99 but mention "forum deals for $87 no setup fee" and they will do it for you!!! They went statewide couple weeks ago. All you earthlink, at&t, compuserve and msn users should think about this. I think its a warm deal for dial up users.....all you cable and dsl users that are laughing at us 56k users can go suck an egg :D

UPDATE: They are now offering 15 Months for $87 no setup. Mention "Forum deals for $5.95" I've tried to get that same deal but they did not let me, which SUCKS but its cool....I can't complain for $7.25. :)

Right now MSN Internet access is available for $59 for a year after a $40 rebate via AccessMicro, apparently. I'm not sure I'd want Uncle Bill looking over my electronic shoulder all the time, though.

I may give Winfire's "free" 144 kbps DSL a try, just for grins, though I'd have to cough up $200 for a modem and probably wait a few months for installation (by which time who knows if the company will still exist).

Are there any ISP's that don't make you sign a 1 year contract? I only need ISP's during winter break (1 month) and summer (3 months).

none of the major isp's make you take a contract, in fact most give a full month for free. So if you just need service for a month sign up with ATT, MSN, Aohell, etc. they will charge you 21.95 for the other 2 months you need it in summer though, and that is high but you can cancell at any time

ppaik - If we mention ""forum deals for $87 no setup fee" do we still have the pay the $19.95 one time non-refundable setup fee for all new customers?

sygyzy - You might want to check out ISP World, they have an ISP finder.

"Back in the day" when I had 56k dial-up Net access I used to get all you can surf for $12.95 per month from a small local ISP. The only catch is they only setup and offer regular ISP services with NO TECH SUPPORT which to the average anandtecher isn't an issue at all. It was cheap and easy, LOL.

I checked with one of the CSRs at Surfside and they said that $87 is only good if you do the year. The $19.95 setup fee is waived, there is no contract, and there is no fee to cancel. BUT if you do cancel before the year is over, they prorate you on the months that you do use, at $9.99 which is still better than most ISP's now. I don't know....I think its a good deal and so far I am a hundred times happier than I was with AOL and earthlink.

Hey ppaik......thanks for the link. I was using netzero but the ad windows were pissing me off. I signed up with Surfside for $8.77 monthly. I didn't have to do the whole year which I couldn't afford. They also have great tech support. No more banners! :p

This is unlimited access...why would you want to worry about how long you have been on. For $3 extra???

if anyone is on the net more than 3 hours every day, you need a job!! 150 hours is plenty for any normal person

Even though I may not be actively surfing the net I still spend plenty of time connected to it. I just leave my computer on at night to do most of my dl'ing.

Wow...this is a good find. Wonder why it was buried so deep in. I will call them first thing tomorrow. I really hate paying Earthlink Friggin $#!@!# $21.99 a month. I hope I dont have problems though.

All I have to do is say FORUM DeALS FOR $5.95???

Not bad so far. Tech support was helpful. The only bad thing about them is that they are not 24hrs. But at least I didn't have to wait more than a minute for them. Thanks for the post ppaik.

WOW I am still connected. It has been 9hrs and I have not been booted yet. I got 7 songs from napster before I went to bed and I'm playing them right now. This rocks!!!

I am going to see how long it will be before they boot me. Off to work soon. Got to get more mp3s.

When you have the chance to download, you forget all the songs you want. Dingdangit!!!

I have been using Netzero without the adbar for a long time and I have no problems. But finally I've settled for blazing fast cable! Why are you still paying for 56k???

"Surfside Internet is now offeringall of California residents unlimited 56k connection for only $87/year..."

Not quite, they only offer numbers for 10 area codes, all located in the El Lay region.
