I was really looking forward to replacing my iPod Nano and VZW Blackberry 8830 with the Storm, but Blackberry's Media Sync software does not support 64 bit Operating Systems.:brokenheart:

I didn't realize that. That's a dealbreaker for me too. I went through the troubles of trying to sync my iPhone to my PC after I upgraded it to 64-bit Windows by having to run a virtual machine... I won't go back to that. I came really close to giving up on the iPhone back at the start of this year before Apple finally released 64-bit iTunes.

When the ad mentions that it's a "click touchscreen" what does that mean? Haptic?

Why did they mention the exact megapixels of the camera (3.2MP) but not mention the resolution of the screen except to say that it's "high".

It mentions that it is "quad-band" - which presumably means quad-band GSM, but it doesn't mention UMTS or WiFi...?

It says "soon" but doesn't mention a release date...?

Still, it's going to be an interesting next two months for phones. The Xperia X1 is on the horizon, the HTC Dream "Android" phone is rumored to be close, and now the Blackberry Storm. Should be interesting to keep up with all of this.

IWhat? BlackBerry wins!

Nice video. The browser looks very nice. I'm looking forward to more details.

Cant you load content w/o their media sync software? I recently bought my wife a pearl, and I didnt install the sync software. All I did was format the microsd card in the phone, took it out, and put the music she wanted in the music folder, rings in the ringtone folder, and videos in the video folder, and put it back in the phone, and everything works just fine for me.

You sure can (and I've done exactly that). But iTunes and the iTunes store is one of the easiest ways to acquire and manage media and I love the simplicity of plugging my iPod Nano in and having everything seamlessly sync for the next trip. Blackberry's own release of Media Sync essentially concedes that iTunes is the default application for media management with mobile devices.

Blackberry should just get a 64 bit version out. It's September of 2008 and we have a right to expect 64 bit versions of any new application. [End rant]

What's 4.5x? How did you get Blackberry Media Sync to install on a 64 bit OS?

The Storm looks very cool. Anyone hear when AT&T and RIM are supposed to release the Bold in the US? It's out overseas in a lot of places right now.

This is the phone I really want. Unfortunately, my company has a 25% discount with Sprint and only 8% through Verizon. That leaves the iPhone out of the question too. It's looking like the HTC Touch Pro is going to be my only choice if I want to cash in on the discount.

I just got one today (latest hardware, latest firmware build). Playing brickbreaker on a touchscreen is fun! But in all seriousness, the strength of this device will be the virtual keyboard. On the latest hardware/firmware it is a dream to type on. I can also confirm that BlackBerry Maps works with built-in GPS. That's all I can say for now.

The screen sits on a rocker switch, and actually clicks "in" when typing or selecting things (think of a mouse button). When typing, gliding your fingers across the virtual keyboard will move the focus but not result in mistyped letters, as you have to press down and "click" it to register a keypress. Two-thumbed typing is pretty quick and easy.

The screen is at least the same resolution of the Bold (480x320) if not more--haven't figured out the exact res yet. It is very bright and sharp with high-contrast, like the Bold.
It mentions that it is "quad-band" - which presumably means quad-band GSM, but it doesn't mention UMTS or WiFi...?
This device has presumably every single band aside from North American 3G and wifi. It does support European/International 3G up to HSUPA, and EV-DO Rev. A.

That's all you're telling us? Let's waterboard UNCjigga!

How's the media interface, is it as easy to use as the iPhone or Touch?. Does it reorient the screen when shifted to horizontal? Have you watched a movie on it yet?

Am I correct in assuming that it still uses MicroSD cards? (which would limit capacity to 8GB)

WE DEMAND MORE INFO!:D

It uses MicroSDHC, which are available at 16Gb right now. Expect 32Gb within the next six months. Theoretical max for HC cards is >2000TB AFAIK.

The Media interface reorients.
