Hi people,
The long and short of it is I was wondering what the best route to take with upgrading the old PC in the title is.
Its a Phenom x2 555 BE that unlocks to 3 core's with DDR2 memory or 4Gb.

What I want to do is upgrade it so that its more capable for playing lower end games for the grand kids.
They use it for homework etc but "Fortnite" (Yes I know) has come along and the old PC cant cope due to ram restrictions.

I was looking at a Ryzen CPU Ram Mobo upgrade but alas no W7 support.
So the second option I am considering is a FX 6300 or some such based upgrade?

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
Just looking for a cheapish last upgrade.
Not looking to update the OS so support of W7 is the main reason why I am looking at FX chips.

Thanks in advance.

For young Kids, If you put Good New Video card evry thing else would be Ok.
I don't think so. Good intentions, but FortNight really wants a decent CPU too. I hooked my friend up with a Q8200 (Core2Quad), 4GB of DDR3, and a dGPU (forgot which one, offhand, but it should have been capable), and it was a skippy, laggy, experience.

Recommend at least a Skylake core with at least 4 threads. (G4560 is OK), and 8GB of RAM, minimum, and a GTX1050-equivalent (friend is using an R7 260X 2GB GDDR5 card).

Edit: Not your fault, Jack. OP simultaneously says "low-end games", and then lists "FortNight", which is not really low-end.

I have a Q8200, a Q9400 and a 555.

The Q9400 scores as the 555, the Q8200 score less.

But all of this is in the YMMV category.

Thanks for the input people,
On the GPU side I didn't mention it because once the basic system is sorted I can upgrade that as and when.
I have a few kicking around from other upgrades that came to my main PC after the PC in question. Should a better upgrade be required I will look at your suggestion Jack Thank you.

@Virtual Larry,
According to the sites the G4560 is Kaby Lake not Skylake but I get the idea.
Yes I did mention both lower end games, such as the ones they can and do play now.,and fortnite
More capable in these lower end games and playing fortnite is the aim of the upgrade.
I don't see how the two are incompatible.
There does seem to be a consensus on the 1050 so I will give that further consideration.

Haswell is something I looked at but outside of secondhand I don't hold out much hope of finding the parts.
I am UK based and have yet to find any online.
