They now have just the drive in stock, but the bundle is still on back order.

They raised the price of the drive to $224.95. The bundle is still set at $220.95. Guess they're trying to get people to buy just the drive now. Wonder how long we're going to end up waiting for the bundle.:(

Buy.com is not a participating retailer for the $50 TDK Rebate. They were prior to 01/01/01 but did not choose to continue when TDK extended the rebate thru March 31st.

I spoke to TDK customer service yesterday to confirm this.

Seems like for every rep that says buy.com is not a participating retailer, there is one that says they are.....

considering that they were participants some employees may be just in the past on their participation and not the present non participation a very likely situation but I would assume from the given that they are not participants and u will not be rebated...]

I ordered from buy, but just got receipts from compusa. for details, you can PM me if you want. I did just call them and confirm that compusa, both in store and online, are "participating" retailers, So I should be all good for the two I bought.

check this out.
for the last couple of days i've been reading how TDK will not honor their $50 MIR if you bought the CDRW from a "non participating retailer" such as NECX or buy.com. and as a result, they have taken the original MIR from their website and posted a newer one with "participating retailer" requirement at
http://www.tdk.com/rebate/rebatevelo.html

I came across the same $50 MIR with no "participating retailer" requirement. Here it is:
http://shopper.cnet.com/shopping/resellers/1,10231,0-12425-311-2319098,00.html
click on the special offer button.

Also if you called TDK customer service rep at 1-800-835-8273 and explained that you have bought the CDRW after reading the "original" MIR, TDK rep says that they will honor it.

I called Buy.com concerning my BO'd TDK bundle. Now the Drive Only is in stock, and it is $11.00 more. CSR offered me a $20.00 credit if I wanted to order a drive only (that is the most a CSR can credit). This with the coupon (CSR said that I could still use it) would mean $50.00 off the $224.95 price of the drive, making it $174.95 + $7.02 shipping. Maybe I get the $50.00 rebate, maybe not. This would make the price WITH REBATE $124.95 + $7.02 shipping.
I opted not to change my order now because of the following:

1. I want to call TDK concerning the rebate and if I can still get this . . . I called them last week when I ordered the drive and was told that Buy.com was in the rebate and so was Egghead.com, although noone has even mentioned Egghead.com as a participating retailer.
2. The DRIVE ONLY was on Back Order all weekend with no ETA when I called, and yet they magically arrived today. WTF? Maybe they will get the bundle in tomorrow . . . a few extra days is not going to kill me . . .

She made a note in my account to extend the $20.00 credit if I changed my mind and wanted the DRIVE ONLY, but not if I wanted to keep my existing order. Maybe another CSR will apply it to the bundle if/when it finally gets in stock.

The rebate is important to me. I probably would not even consider getting this drive, if I cannot get the rebate. I will post my findings tomorrow . . .

Hope this helps. If you want the drive only, call them and ask them for a credit because: THE DRIVE ONLY WAS $213.95 YESTERDAY, AND NOW YOU ARE LOSING OUT ON THE CD-R'S IN THE BUNDLE.

How's this for a kicker. You're correct that just the drive is in stock, but did you know that the spindle of cd's is also in stock? I called and spoke to a CSR today about that. Some of my exact words were:

"If you have the individual items in stock, then doesn't it make sense to send those to your customers? Rather than have them wait who knows how long to get the same 2 items 'bundled'?"

She said that I could purchase the two seperately to which I countered with the fact that it's almost $30 more to do so. She said she would be unable to credit me the difference, to which I asked, "Is there someone there that could?" She said she would check and put me on hold. Couple minutes later, she said she would now have to call the warehouse to see if they would go ahead and package them for me (i'm assuming she got approval for the adjustment). When she came back, she said that the site is reporting incorrect information, and that my bundle would be shipping tomorrow (thursday) from chicago. (sweet!)

So I thanked her for looking in to it and told her how much I appreciated her time and effort. Then wished her a nice day.

Got to hand it to Buy.com, despite all this mess they're in with this, they are handling things pretty well.

Of course, they're a lot more responsive when you talk to them as a person and not just another CSR! I strongly believe that she would have had the two individual items sent out to me if the bundle hadn't come in stock in their chicago warehouse!

Well, as anyone else out there that was lucky enough to purchase the so called "bundle" from Buy.com in December knows, it's not a bundle at all, well in the physical sense at least. Heck, I know my and at least one other person on here's orders were split up over 4 days. I'm pretty sure everone that ordered the "bundle" got the drive and the spindle in 2 completely separate packages. I ordered when there was the $1.95 2nd Day Air shipping upgrade. I guess to UPS "2nd Day Air" really means "well, as long as we get one of the packages in a multiple package tracking number set to you in 2 days it still counts as 2nd Day air; even if the other package(s) show(s) up 4 days later".
