Doesn't bother me, that'd happen whether I made a conscious choice to be vegan or not. I just don't understand people getting off on killing something for no reason. Go stamp on a kitten or something, don't have to waste money on ammo then. Less meat but hey.

Obviously many of you P&Ners don't know what it can take to bag a deer.

"It seemed so easy when they did it between commercials on TV."

Maybe OT will bring out some more educated responses.

Congrats Riprorin

So let 'em. That's the way it was before.

Seeing as certain parts of the world are over-populated, maybe we should go round shooting and eating humans too cos gun crime and hunting accidents aren't cutting the mustard. We need more death.

You mean before we killed off wolves and other predators that ate dear. Don't come bitching when a dear walk out in front of your car and you total it.

He's not "killing for no reason." He's hunting for food. That someone else is willing to kill and supply him food is irrelevant. Something is going to die to feed him either way.

At least he has the intestinal fortitude to actually do his own dirty work, instead of whining like a pussy at the thought of death while gulping down a hamburger.

How generous of you. The skill level is negotiable. Why not clusterbomb the entire area, no population problem then.

Give them a gun and throw them in the woods and the vast majority would starve.

Stick someone in the middle of nowhere with a gun and no food supplies, what do you think they're gonna do? Cuddle the gun? FFS.

At least he had the mental and physical ability to kill and clean his own food rather than hide behind a slaughter house and butcher like a squeamish pansy.

Yeah, I hope everyone's real proud. I'm such a pussy now I come to think of it

Think about this for a second instead of ignorantly assuming you know what you're talking about. You obviously do not.

Nah, the guy can pick up a deer that someone ran over and take a picture with it. It's too late now. Take the pic before it's in the freezer next time. And make sure it's not from the road ;)

What's wrong with from the road? They're just as tasty! I had 3 road-killed deer in the freezer last year, with the one I shot. Just finished off the venison about 2 weeks ago.

Congrats Rip. 70yrds is a decent distance for a slug.
As for a bow being much more fair: just as deadly inside of 40 yards.

When was the last time you ate meat?

Yesterday, but there's plenty of meat in places called shops/grocery stores/whatever. There's no need to run around with a gun wasting wild animals and creaming your pants about it (unless you're retarded). Some achievement killing an animal with a shotgun, does he want a medal?

Go one on one with a bear instead. That'd be a good pay-per-view, not very long but guaranteed to be funny.

now now everyone.... no need to flame this one. Everyone knows that the meat in the grocery stores conveniently walked up to a mechanized plant before dropping over dead from old age (at the ripe age of 2 years old, thanks to hormones and antibiotic treatments) MmmSkyscraper is right. There's no skill involved in hunting whatsoever - the deer just walk up to you and stand still - just watch 30 seconds of any hunting show :) Obviously television is where Mmm gets his knowledge from.
/end sarcasm

Actually, yeah, I'd be willing to bet that Mmm would starve to death if it weren't for grocery stores. 5 bucks says he couldn't even draw my bow back at the slow speed required to not spook a deer, let alone shoot an arrow accurately. And, give him 30 minutes of carrying a shotgun like Rip's in the woods, always alert and ready to shoot, and he'll be crying "mommy, this is too heavvvy, my arms are tired." Heck... even if he did somehow find a suicidal deer willing to walk up to him, I'd bet he'd still starve.

I thought this was in P&N before. :p

Always nice to let OT get a view to the idiots. Kinda like those glass cages at the zoo - you watch the rabid monkeys beating each other and masturbating without any fear of personal harm.

Although I don't really see the appeal of hunting, one less deer for me to crash into with my car gets a  from me.

Ever eaten venison? It's tasty. Not quite as good as moose IMO, but it's a hell of a lot better than grocery-store steaks. :D

I was once in a car when my dad hit a deer........ going 80mph in a 1990 Toyota Tercel

The car "sliced" right through it although it jumped up about 4 inches...fun:p

What's the point of anything? Besides, the deer will be eaten, so what's the difference between this and going to your supermarket and picking up a pack of venison?

You're taking this generic "people are stupid" thing waaaay too far. People have survival instincts and when faced with death, they will learn and do things they didn't think possible.

No, most people don't know how to hunt, but if you left them in the woods they'll learn. They'll scare off a few animals, and then they'd get one. Then when they haven't eaten for several days, you can be sure as hell they WILL skin and eat whatever they killed. No one would starve rather than get a bit of blood on their hands.

I just don't get the whole going into the woods to shoot animals. Never really appealed to me. Hey, people are free to do whatever they like, doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

Well, at least you're not a rabid anti-hunting type like PETA. :)

I'm not saying people are stupid. Just ignorant.

Hunting is NOT instinctual. It is a learned skill. And the average human will not survive if they do not eat in four to five days. After that, they wont have the energy to hunt anymore.

If you think the average out of shape, ignorant city dweller can learn to hunt and survive in fewer than five days, I believe you have a bit too much faith in people.

I love venison, but wasn't too impressed with moose to be honest. Elk on the other hand is fantastic, I prefer it to both venison and normal beef. Bear was weird, pretty tough and strong, I consider it an acquired taste.

Go one on one with a bear instead. That'd be a good pay-per-view, not very long but guaranteed to be funny.

My dad found his encounter funny enough to finish his chore before going back to his truck after the attack. If only he had had a camcorder...*sigh* Regardless, he generally maintains such contact is to be avoided.
