thanks Rich..I agree

When i decided to buy an Opteron..I hoped to get 2700...did not want the to "feel" I was going backwards

But then I thought my Winny @2550 does not seem any slower than Venice @2750..I was hard pressed to see any difference except what mymobo and ram provided via 2gb nd slight faster speeds..DDR500 vs DDR424...very small at best and probably zero

So I figure a DC @2500with 1MB cache should compare well to 2750 with 512kb...ie !MB cache=200mhz suppsoedly

So I revised my hope to be sane and realistic....anything over 2500 and it is great..2.6..terrific, 2.7...awesome..I will stay at 1.52v or lower

I initially thought the same as you, my Winchester could do 2.5 and if I was to get a dual core, I wanted to have around 2.7+ not just an expensive equal, but I was naive and was thinking to optimistically. Then after some use I released what a benefit the extra core has over the previous single core Winchester, and again like you said I didn?t really think that my Winchester at 2.5 was that slow anyway.

Anyways good luck i hope all goes well .

are you using a memory divider...what speed is the memory running at?

many overclocks may need 1.45v-1.5v to hit higher speeds not all opteron will do 2.4 st low voltage and no I think you temps look good

Also you can not easily compare temps becasue of different cases and locations

I live in FL and my room temps stay warmer than many...my home office is on an outer room..3 walls to the outside so it stays warmer than other areas of my house for example

You know YOU ARE RIGHT!!! I got 2520 on my opteron 165. 9 Mult x 280 at 1.4 vcore. I wasn't paying attention and I was positive I had tried it with a lower memory timing 133 but I guess I didn't. I just had to lower my PC400 memory to 133 which with my overclock actually runs it at 180, I even lowered my timing to 1t which really helps video rendering. It is peachy. I am testing with 2x prime 95s with a winamp vis running to get temps up at 2520 I havn't even tried any higher as I am extremely happy as it is.

Man I was really envious of everyone at insane overclocking speeds and now I at least have exceeded my goal of 2.4!!! Yippieeee!!!

Glad I could help..I hope I hit 2520 @1.4v

Hey guys, new to these forums. I joined cuz I built my baby, finally and wanted to join a community who knows their stuff.

Anywho, I bought an opty 165 for $278 from Monarch Computers (really great price).

I figured I would get some decent OC'n but not too great since it was so cheap and an OEM.

To my surprise, after I installed it under my XP90, I cranked up the FSB to 250 with default voltages.... ran stable for days.

Then I went ahead and pushed it up in increments of 10mhz to 300 mhz and only needed 1.425 Volts for the CPU and 1.6 for the chipset to run stable.

Do you all think an opteron @ 2.7ghz w/ 1.425 volts is good?

btw, my temp at full load is 42 Celcius and 28 C idle (only way to do that is to encode 2 divx files at the same time, lol).

I'll be making a sig shortly.
