In response to the previous deal posted:

Western Digital Caviar SE 200GB SATA II 3Gb/s 8MB Buffer (WD2000JS) @ Ascendtech.us

To follow up, Ascendtech confirmed these drives are used pulls with no factory warranty.

I complained that they failed to disclose the condition of the items, but Ascendtech responded this was in their terms and policies:

"Ascendtech.us carries a mixture of new, used, surplus, and recertified products."

Which of course, is not a sufficient disclosure of the item's condition but rather a general statement or description of their business model. Ascendtech apparently operates on the 'grab bag' principle (i.e. you might get new, you might get used, you might get refurbished...its a surprise!).

I requested a refund, told them I would refuse delivery, and if they attempt to charge a cancellation or restocking fee, I would request a charge back from my card issuer and dispute it as long as it took to get a favorable outcome.

The CSR was very pissy, blamed me for not reading their terms or asking questions before placing the order, but ultimately agreed to refund my purchase in full after I threatened to file a complaint with the attorney general of OH on grounds of misleading advertising and failure to disclose.

Seems like a good deal? I need a cheap raid set for photo/video back ups. Are these decent drives?

Refurbished:

Manufacturer Warranty
Parts 90 days limited
Labor 90 days limited

If you want to do refurbished drives with 90 day manufacturer warranties, I can find even better prices than that. MDT has a six month warranty on refurbs.

You're right, it looks like he was trying to link to CV.

Wth?? Is CV a banned word?

Stay away from "Recertified" drives. They died once, they will die again soon.

I would grab that 250 WDKS if they had a full warranty, but 90 days doesn't give much piece of mind.

Manufacturer Warranty

Beyond any applicable Newegg return policy, this item is warranted independently by the product's Manufacturer. Below is a summary provided for convenience only and may not be accurate or current. Click here for full details.

* Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (parts): 90 days
* Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (labor): 90 days

MWAVE has it for $67.50 +ship/tax, but I don't see warranty info there.

Just called them up and checked on what type of warranty is included. The representative stated that there is no Manufacture warranty, only a 30 day company warranty

To me this kills the deal

WD2500KS drives are also known to have a bug in the way they report SMART temps. Just FYI for those that are considering them in this thread over the OP drive.

You called who, Ascendtech, MWAVE, or Newegg? Deals from all three have been mentioned in this thread.

No kidding, I almost bit on this deal. If I remember correctly, the page this hard drive was on had no indication that it would be anything other than a new hard drive.

Wow! That is no way to run a business. I hope anyone that got screwed on this comes down on these guys hard with all available resources. Shady practices indeed.
