You had a dishwasher and weren't using it? You deserve this!!!!!! :|:|:|

Well, by now I'd have installed a new disposal and sending the recipt to them with the cost deducted from my next rent check...

Well now it is even worse. I am sick of waiting for them to come repair this thing that I decided to run the dishwasher since the mound of dishes smells. Well, now the damn dishwasher doesn't work. Even better is that it hasn't been used for months because we do all our dishes by hand.

/Update

Been five days since I reported our broken garbage disposal and no activity on management's part. It wouldn't be a big deal, except that our sink floods since the disposal does not work and it is the only drain. No, it is not clogged. Furthermore, we can't use the dishwasher so we are stuck with this.

dude, you got bad management.

i live in a community of 4,000 apartments, and our maintenace is great.

same thing happened to me a couple days back, garbage disposal fvcked up after we barbequed at my place, and i was stuck with a million dishes... i called emergency maintenace and it was fixed in half an hour ;)

why the heck wouldn't you use your dishwasher? no matter how expensive water/power can get, there is no way i will wash by hand if i had a dishwasher :)

miller lite in cans.
excellent choice.

my landlords are pretty good, if there is a problem they get on it that day.
i would say 5 days is way too long.

Your appliances are cursed.

At least your pipes dont consistantly freeze up in winter if you don't leave the water running. My friend hasn't gotten them to fix that in three years.

I didn't see anyone mention using a broom handle to pry it free. The impeller on the DW may be frozen as well. Basically the same fix for that. I'd fix stuff myself before even waiting half an hour. I HATE to wait! That's why I change my own oil. I hate to wait for somebody else to do it.

We would always just hand wash the dishes right after using them. The dishwasher is old so it did a very poor job.

Maintenance just showed up and all is good now.

i can understand that... the place i lived in my sophmore year had a crappy dishwasher as well and we would have to wash everything twice to get the job done... i got annoyed and began washing by hand... so who is going to wash all those dishes now? its gonna take forever...

well since its all good now, time to work on pics :D :p

Missed this thread earlier. I'd say 4 days is the max I'd be willing to wait before being angry. I had the exact same symptoms with a garbage disposal at my apartment. The maintainence took 3 days to come and fix it (just isn't their priority when there are more critical things broken). All they had to do was borrow a broom and force it to turn. Then they recommended I grind a small tray of ice cubes every month to prevent it from happening again.

By the way, if your dishwasher isn't very good, try better soap. Consumer Reports says the Electrosol Tabs made even crappy dishwashers clean well. The Electrosol Tabs have active enzymes that help catalyze the breakdown of the food.

Will give those a try. Thanks for the information.

You may also need to flush out the air gap for the dish washer. But it's not likely since you don't use the dw.
BTW, what did maintenance do to fix it?
