Here is how THIS deal worked out for ME...

First let me say I go to OD alot. Every time the store manager sees me walking in, I swear you can hear his A$$ hole tighten. He knows from many past experiences he is about to get SCREWED and not even kissed. With that being said here is how to do it...

I clicked on the link from the OD email they sent me, and shopped for the 20% off and added the following to my cart:

259.99 HP 612 Camera (I wanted the better camera)
199.99 HP 1115 Photo Printer
89.99 64Meg ScanDisk CompactFlash Card

549.97 Total
109.99 20% Off

439.98 I printed the order and went to the store

I went to the store and picked up the items. ALL WERE IN STOCK!!! Went to the casheer where the manager meet me. Something bothered me... he didn't have usual look of "combat mode". I don't know if he was in the Egg Nogg & Rum to much of some other "Christmas Spirits" but he was going with the flow. He rung the items up and took the 20% off. Wit a twinkle in his blood shot eyes he asked "is there anything else...?"

I grabbed the sales paper from the counter and asked about the free memory card. The add says "See store for details". Well... they searched for 5 minutes and couldn't find any details. So he looks at the add and said the offer is only good with the 318. I said "just because they show a picture of the 318 dosen't mean it is only good with that camera, I would like to see the details...". He just smiled and pushed some buttons on the cash regester and "-89.99 Managers Adjustment" appeared. He should have done this BEFORE taking the 20% off but a extra $18 off was not going to hurt my feelings.

Then we came to the $75 off bundle. Before he could even try anything I showed him the item numbers in the add. He just grinned and added coupon #3371. "-75.00 Coupon"

So we are at :

439.98
- 89.99 Managers Adjustment
- 75.00 Coupon

274.99
17.88 NC Sales Tax

292.87 Out the door and into the car for the 612 Camera, 1115 Photo Printer, & 64Meg FlashCard. AND just to show him what a REALLY GREAT DEAL this was going to be, I opened the camera and showed him the HP Rebate Coupon for another $100. My receipt shows "Coupon" and "Managers Adjustment", nothing about "Bundles" or "Special Offer" so just let HP try give me any CRAP about giving me my rebate.

Would someone be so kind as to email me a copy of your receipt showing the 20% discount when using in store pickup along with the free compact flash & $75 instant savings.
I want to get to my local store here pretty quick. Thanks amsterL@pacbell.net

One question for all you people who called and asked HP:

are you sure that the support person wasn't confusing the OD $75 with the other $75 offer ON THE REBATE FORM?

Here's what the form says:

"Purchase an hp photosmart digital camera and an hp photosmart printer or hp all-in-one machine freom the list below to receive a $100 U.S. rebate check/cheque. OR purchase any manufacturer's digital camera and an hp photosmart printer or hp all-in-one machine from the list below to receive a $75 U.S. rebate check/cheque. No other purchase required. Check the boxes that correspond with your purchases and fill in the digital camera make and all product serial numbers to qualify for your rebate."

So maybe the support people at HP thought that we meant the $75 here, not OD.

Receipt scan coming.

I will qualify for the HP rebate.

Placed my order last night with an expected price of right under $342. Went to the store and at first the person there couldn't confirm my order. Then she found out that the printer was not in the store. A check on the computer found the printer availabe at another OD. I offered to pay at that time and bring the sale slip to the other store. It not their policy and this person comp me an ink cartridge for my troubles. Drove 12 miles to the other OD and ask for the item. At that time got told my old order was deleted and a new ticket had started. Tried to explain the deal to the manager by using the internet; but these f***heads' attitude is that even if you ordered off the web, you still was suppose to pay the store price. Also, it didn't help OD changed its code link policy today. Came home and called OD to rant and rave. Explained the situation, how unhappy I was with OD, and got p***ed on again. The CSR ran the deal across his superior and giving both reduction together vilolate OD sacred set of rules.

I did get corporate customer relation number (1-800-937-3600 ext. 84501) and it will reopen next Wednesday.

Oh, the web price on the print cartridge is $52.99 before taxes.:D

I scored both a printer & 318 cam but the guy gave me smartmedia 64mb instead of compactflash. So I go back there and tell him it's the wrong one and he brings out a SD card and says "Is it this one?" - I had pity for the guy because he was a csr and not a sales/tech guy. I said no it's the thick one. He says they're all out of those and to call back after the holidays. I said that I have something that will use the SD card so could I just switch it for that? and he said yeah! Score for me! It's like double the value of a CF or SM card. =) I actually do have an mp3 player that uses SD/MM but I think I'll ebay it and get the $50-$60 instead. Hell, from that amazon 64mb of cf for $10 I could buy 320mb of CF for the $50 I'd get from the SD card.

Anyway.

Do you guys think I should keep the cam or sell it and upgrade to a better one. Currently I've got an Olympus D-510 (2.1mp, 3x opt. zoom, pretty nice). I need a second one for more general snapshots but it would be nice to have zoom. I was looking into the Nikon 775 a little. Any good deals on that? I'm looking in the $200 - $400 price range. (needs 2.1mp+, 2x+ zoom, compact).

Thanks

*sigh*

Well, I got it, though the manager I spoke to was a real (Can I say that word here? :).

He was trying to deny me the 20% off and saying I had to use one or the other. Then he tried to me the coupons were expired. Ended up calling Office Depot Customer Service and they told him to give me all of them.

Thanks for the great deal!

DJMCAM: if you were to sell this camera and the printer together you could garner a hefty sum. Then take that sum and buy a better digicam. I did this on many occasions.

Don't, HP cameras are the suck, but for some reason I do not mind giving them as gifts. I'd only use a Canon myself.

so what is the verdict of HP 318...
any review...

man, I should have got the 612 for $50 more, that one have 2x optical zoom (I think is better)
btw, anyone tell me what is difference between digital and optical zoom ?

too bad they are OOS for the CF card..
so they deduce $60 back
however, they apply the $75 off coupon b4 the 20%...

still No CF + cam + printer = 235 Vs $245
now anyone tell me where I find good deal on CF....

I only bought the 318 because Office Depot was sweetening the deal with the free 64mb CF card. Otherwise I would have bought the 612.

You *CAN* get the 64mb with the HP612. That's what I did. There's a store that has teh 318, but not the printer, and there was another store that had the printer, but not the 318. So i had to get the 612 instead.. and they gave me the 64mb w/ it too.
I did exactly what jweldridge did. Ordered online, and got the -$75 and free CF after I got there. They actually did something weird and gave me a refund after I paid the full price - so I got a receipt without any discounts (other than 20% off) and another receipt with just the refunds.. AND they took off the $75 and CF price after the 20% off.

Thanks for the great deal, guys! Now I have to decide whether I should keep it or not.. ;)

I got the 1115 and 612. My receipt shows the camera for $112 and the printer for $99 and the CF for $59.99, total with tax $315.22. It also shows the camera at $249 then voided and the printer for $199 then voided with the other prices then entered. Bottom line was fine with me and I didn't even have to tell the manager anything, although it took him 4 different transactions, but he did get it right without me having to say a word. Thanks OP. I figured I'd go for the 612 and flea it, as there was only one other up for auction vs. dozens of the 315 and 318's.

Ohh yea, i got really lucky. I called rebateshq, and asked them if the rebate was valid for purchases from Office Depot (because when u get a confirmation email, it says HP-Staples Rebate), so the lady said yea, its for everything. Then to my surprise, she said because of what we talked about, i'll submit the information for you, and you can send the reciept and upc's to HP to get their rebate too, because apparently they are two different addresses. So if you guys didnt submit your rebate already, (Late ppl like me), try sending a copy of everything to rebateshq, and sending originals to HP, you might get double back. Good luck

Just a little update for you guys. My Rebate was initially rejected by HP. I have no idea why though. My receipt shows regular prices for each item, 199.99 for the HP 318 and 199.99 for the HP 1115 printer. From the details of the rejection letter, only the part about "only valid through authorized HP resellers" is questionable. I called Office Depot and they told me hell yes they are authorized.

Now I have to open a case with HP. My Rebate should be fulfilled, but unfortunately I will have to fight them on it.

Yep, a fight is in order. It's going to be the only way to have Hewlett Packard fulfill the $100 rebate. I have to call the HP corporate center as the Young America Rebate office is directing everyone with this complaint to HP Corporate.

HP Corporate (650) 857-1501. Refer the name Scott S. at the Rebate Center in Minnesota. I'm throwing together a detailed layout for the Rebate complaint tonight.

Yeah, I'm fighting it. Looks like I'll be getting at least $25 to make it $100 ($75 from OfficeDepot + $25 from HP). I've sent them back their rejection notice along with this letter I typed:

HP Printer & Camera Rebate
PO Box 8700, Dept. 3330-102
Young America, MN 55551-8700

To whom it may concern:

I have received your ?unable to process your rebate request? letter dated
January 23, 2002. After speaking with your representative I was informed
that because of HP mistake there was a problem regarding this $100 rebate
with some stores and was told to send everything back and in about 6 weeks
I will get my rebate check for $100.

I did go over the rebate terms and nowhere on that rebate form it states that
certain stores are not eligible or the rebate is void when other store
promotions are used. My attorney has pointed out that I have a very valid
rebate claim and under no circumstances it should be denied.

I?m asking you to process this claim as fast as possible to avoid further
liability on your part on this matter.

Sincerely,

xxxxxxxx

You're welcome to use this letter if you would like.

I got mine. At first it was rejected but I called. I was told that Office Depot was only offering $75 back and was in on that deal. But I ordered from the dot com and was told that I qualified then. So I had to refax my receipt and info back to an 800 number with an explanation. That was done on the 7th of Feb. I got my check yesterday. Unreal.
