A shame, true. Yeah, folks were tricked. And I sure can't figure why they left this offer up for so long before changing their minds. Fact is, there is no legal renumeration to be had. You all remember BB and the GF4's... The best thing you can do, is to let Reseller Ratings and everyone else you know to avoid them. Word of Mouth by dedicated net folks is a powerful tool in its own right. They'll feel the burn you want to give them

I am genuinely bewildered by the incredible lack of reasoning and reading comprehension skills exhibited here. How you can read the opening paragraph and interpret that as an accusation of bait-and-switch shows more disregard of what words REALLY mean. I am NOT saying, "You guys are shameless scammers you tricked us into ordering when you knew all along the price would be higher." What I AM saying (for those still to obtuse to understand) is, "You don't seem to care (or realize) that people may not easily accept an extreme leap in price regardless of whether you got caught in a bind or not." If you refuse to understand this, I can't help you.

If Provantage hadn't skyrocketed the price to waaaaaaaaay over MSRP and/or had found a fair (we can't expect them to offer to lose money) alternative - maybe a gift card for X amount off a future purchase, whatever - then there'd be a lot less raw feelings around here. If they fulfilled the orders (at cost, for instance) they took during the EIGHT DAYS they were taking orders at the lower price, we'd all be saying how great Provantage was and how they would be remembered for their fair dealing...

Instead, they decided it would be better to be hated for free. Not only will they not profit from this debacle, they'll continue to lose in the future.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to be cheap.

I ordered this too so I'm in the same boat. Everyone can debate about being bait and switch all they want but the bottom line is that they screwed up on the pricing and then overreacted and overpriced it. The regular 6800 jumped in price from $255 to $311. We still should be able to take some action. Keep in mind that websites can put all the "it's not our fault if anything happens" verbiage they want on their website but they are still responsible. When dump trucks put signs on their trucks that they are not responsible for rocks falling from their trucks and damaging your car does that make it true? No.

I was on the fence.. i can't believe they had this price for almost 2 weeks and did nothing about it. Did they not notice the many orders pouring in? Please rip them a new one on resellerratings.

I agree with that. I've already decided to post on resellerratings.com if I do not get the card. Also might send a friendly notice to other places.
I can't say it is bait and switch, because the exact definition says other wise, but this situation is very similar.

Ok, got the same "price increase" email....I think my heart just exploded...wait....lemme check....yep, it did. I probably only have a few minutes to live so I gotta write quick. So this deal is dead. Does ANYBODY here know of a sub $370 6800GT anywhere on the net?? (Ebay fools seem to be paying upwards of $450)...and also, does anyone know anything about the following company?(it was mentioned a couple pages ago but with limited response):

Crap...I really liked that dance. Whatever...what's 60 more dollars? A couple nights out and a tank of gas. I'll make up the difference by staying home for three days holed up in my room with Doom III. Good luck everyone.

This kinda stuff really pisses me off.

They have to be responsible for the preorder price. I ordered on the 15th for crying out loud.

I wrote them an email saying no, I will not take the new price, give me the old price because my invoice states that price..

We´ll see how that works out.

Either way,

Provantage sucks hardcore and I wouldnt ever think about doing business with them again unless they give me my preorder price.

eVGA 6800 GT with Far Cry for $398 Shipped 3-Day FedEx at AccuPC

The same card is $416 with equivalent 3-day FedEx or $412 with Ground shipping direct from eVGA.

Where does it say this card comers with Far Cry?? I am just getting around to purchasing this game and if this card came with the game, this would be a pretty sweet deal for me, personally.

Again - how are we sure Far Cry comes with?

Yeah, but if and your peers already have Far Cry, it's a waste to pay for a game you've already bought when you can't sell it off to recoup a bit.

There's an interview with Tim Willets and Todd Hollinhead(sp?) of Id at Gamespot and when asked if there were any bundle deals for Nvidia cards and Doom 3, they paused and then said they couldn't comment. Sounds like it may happen! Whoever offers that deal WILL rule over all others because we all know that we're gonna get that and thus a $400 card effectively becomes a $350 card.

We need a leak and an announcement!

I read on Hardforums that provantage changed their mind and decided to honor these prices.

Link please?

If true, it's another one of those "D'OH!" moments when a company doesn't realize the pain that a bad decision like this can make. As I said before, it may cost for people to like you, but they'll hate you for free and they should've spent another moment consider what the real *cost* of this reverse would have been.

They did NOT change their mind, just talked to the manager. They are only fulfilling the orders they have already charged. The manager said they are taking a hit on the sales, however, since they already charged the customer they felt it was their only option.

Congrats to those who got in on the deal. If they're actually shipping some cards and taking a hit, that explains the above-MSRP price now on the cards. They're trying to recover some cash.

So does this mean that the whinning will stop and that zlooop will be changing his feedback on Reselleratings.com?

So much wasted time and energy on a damn piece of computer hardware!

Did anyone see the thread about the GM Employee Discount at CompUSA that said cost on the GT was $312? Even if Provantage was somehow being charged $360 for the cards, they could've fulfilled at cost and saved the grief for everyone.

I don't believe that they're trying to recoup the cash on the few cards they will actually deliver. It's not like they sell one item and it's a zero sum game - the hit on this is a drop in their overall balance sheet ocean. If they are trying to recoup, not only do they look unscrupulous, but they lose any potential future business. Too bad for them.

Just called Provantage right now since I haven't recieved a e-mail but my order status is still "Status: We are waiting for additional information so we can process your Internet order." They said their system is down and would call me back......expecting the worse....

OK OK OK

sorry... i read that on the Hardforum thread, but I just talked to them and the said no GO

I DID NOT CHANGE MY reseller rating review.. hehe .... those bastards can burn...

I also filed a complaint with the FTC. I suggest you do the same.

Their price change is completely illegal.
