Would you wear a gray/charcoal jacket (mountain hardwear fleece) if you were wearing brown shoes and a brown belt or is this fashion taboo?

Absolutely. Gray/charcoal and brown is actually a better combination than with black; you'll find that people who are into fashion actually start to avoid black shoes et al in favor of brown.

I realize charcoal goes with black, but I'm trying to find a warm jacket that I can wear with brown shoes/belt combo and I really like Mountain Hardwear's Windstopper Tech.
