great link about real life performance of different memory. It basically finds that value ram is only about 8% slower MAX in a whole slew of programs for amd 64s (probably because of the way the cpu itself controls the memory unlike intel which motherboard chipsets control the memory) notice however, he does not measure 2 gb vs 1 gb. I believe in the future, especially with x2 dual core processing, you?re going to need more memory.

Manufacturer Part Number: PDC2G3200LLK

Overview

Patriot?s Dual Channel (DC) 2GB PC3200 Low Latency memory kits are engineered to optimize performance in system motherboards containing Dual Channel chipsets. Current chipsets utilizing Dual Channel are Intel 875 ?Canterwood?, Intel 865 ?Springdale?), nForce 2 Ultra 400, nForce 3 250, and Via KT880. The kits are composed of two (2) 1GB low latency modules, manufactured, tested and then immediately packaged to ensure reliability and stability.

Specifications

Couldn't resist any longer...at $207 shipped from Outpost for 2 GBs of quality RAM, it's a no brainer. Perfect for my new build.

I wonder if DDR RAM prices will start to climb now that shipments of DDR2 (i.e., newer Intel mobos) has started to outpace shipments of DDR (AMD and older Intel mobos).

Thanks OP for keeping on top of this deal!

Regards,

Bud

Ooooh newegg at it again - they bumped the price on that OCZ Platinum from 259.95 last night/this morning (I ordered last night) and now it's $273.95.

I think its probably the same chips ones OCZ the other is Patriot. Your call on if you want to spend the extra $45AR or $70 on OCZ. I got the OCZ before the Patriot deal for 207 came up. I skipped on the Patriot for 242 but for 207 I would have done it...

It was $27 before - ended on the 14th, then they busted out a new one today along with the saudi oil price jack style listing.

LOL...anyone know if the Patriot from Outpost comes with RED or BLUE heat spreaders? I did a google (because Outpost has NO picture of the RAM) and it came up BLUE (maybe an old web-page...seems like all patriot RAM has red heat spreaders these days).

The PDC2G3200LLK comes with RED heat spreaders. Overall, this is the best price that I was able to find for reasonable quality/branded RAM.. It just took a rather long time for my order to process. :)

For only ~$30 or so more, it's worth getting 2 GBs (in only 2 sticks) of quality CAS 2 RAM (with cool looking heat spreaders for clear side cases to boot:) verses somewhat budget RAM at CAS 2.5. It's too bad most mobo's aren't spec'd at running more than 2 sticks of Non-ECC and/or double sided sticks at PC3200 speeds.

I wonder what speed these sticks would hit at CAS 2.5?

They might be back-ordered for awhile unfortunately. I ordered a week and a half ago and still no ETA. Hopefully they'll get a shipment soon.

Does Outpost hit the credit card BEFORE the order is shipped?

i hate this. I just made the jump to 1 gig at the beginning of this year and suddenly its time for 2 gigs.

Whatever, 1 gig is fine for everything except BF2

So is Patriot a decent brand? NE has a 1GB stick for about $120 that I see from time to time with decent specs.

FWIW, I found the best price for NEW ram on ebay. Apparently Dell had some sale a while back and "arbitragers" sold (and I assume profited by selling) 1gb DDR2 553GHz sticks for $90 + 5SH.

BTW Samsung brand but unsure of CAS.

Patriot is apparently a pretty good brand...at least Anandtech recommended it a while ago in a buyer guide.

I think patriot has good price/performance value. I used a lot of Geil's stuff until they jacked up their prices. ocz isn't bad either.

I have 2x1GB Patriot Signature (value line) with Micron chips and it's great. I'm running it right now at 217MHz 3-3-3-8-1T. Timings aren't fantastic but for the price I paid a little over a month ago it is SCHWEET! It will do 2.5-3-3-7-1T at 200MHz. I'd jump all over the 2x1GB 2-3-2-5 sticks for this price if I didn't already have the value stuff.

I called Outpost, and they say they have 13 on order, with 23 on backorder. I see Monarch dropped the price to $226 with free shipping. Since I live in CA, have to pay shipping and tax at Outpost, it comes out to within a couple of dollars of each other. Since Outpost is BO'd and Monarch has it in stock, I went with Monarch...
