So like the geek that I am, I got the idea to look for benchmarking applications for Android. I found BenchmarkPi!

Let's see if we can get a good list of different devices and see how they score. The more information the better. We can see if rooted devices score better, how much overclocking helps, etc...

Just list your phone, what version of the OS, overclocking, and anything you think would be relevant. If your phone is overclocked, make sure to mention the stock clock along with the overclock.

It doesn't have to be a phone either, if you have some android tablet or something feel free to test it. Don't know if those exist yet.

To start off with here's my stuff:

Benchmarkpi

Nexus One
Android 2.1 Update 1
No overclocking
No rooting
Benchmarkpi score: 2835 ms

If this same application exists for other Phone operating systems and we could verify that the test is apples to apples, that would be great.

UPDATE:

I was looking for 3D benchmarking apps and found Neocore. The only problem with it that I could tell is that I couldn't change resolution. This leaves us with less than apples to apples comparisons since different phones have different screen resolutions, but it's better than nothing. List the same stuff as before, but include the resolution the benchmark is running at and of course the fps.

Nexus One
Android 2.1 Update 1
No overclocking
No rooting
480x800
26.4FPS

After playing around a bit, I suggest running the benchmark a couple times and taking an average. The first time I ran it I got in the ~2900s but every time after I ran it, it was consistently in the 2800 range. This makes me believe the application is loading something still the first time you run it and is not entirely a cpu test the first time.

Oh, and it kept getting faster the first four times I ran it. First was in the high 9000s, then low 9000s, then ~8900, now ~8800. After that it sort of stabilized and I'm getting ~8800-8900 consistently.

Droid/2.0.1/no OC/5625

Recently went back to stock, I'm curious what those running a custom Droid ROM with 1GHz or so OC would get.

Moto Droid/2.0.1/Stock - best of 4915. Avg. of 5032 over 5 tries.

First one was slow at 5429, fourth try was the quickest, after that it hovers roughly around the same value.

So far the numbers about line up where they should...the N1 is a similar CPU core to Droid but almost twice the clock speed, Moment is similar CPU to the Eris but 800MHz vs 528. Also goes to show how much faster the Cortex A8 is than the ARM11 (since Droid and Eris are similar clock speeds).

This also makes me wonder why Droid does certain things sluggishly. I don't really realize how sluggish switching home screens is when I use the phone day to day...but I picked up my old G1 yesterday, and its noticably smoother, despite a CPU 2.5x slower and a whole lot less memory. The Droid is about 2.5x the resolution, so I could understand them being similar....but then again Droid also has a dedicated GPU.

This is too much thinking for a Friday morning.

Also interesting, because based on those numbers the Eris should be unbearably slow, but when using the phone, its not bad. Would love to see someone bench the 1.5 ROM, since as far as the UI is concerned, 2.1 is MUCH faster.

Rebooting got a slightly better score for me. Average of 5 tests was 2807ms after a reboot compared to 2835 from being on for a long time.

LULZ, benching our phones :awe:

Another generation or two, and I expect to be plugging my phone into a dock and having a keyboard/screen/printer rocking :D

I was laughing about this the other day when I messing around with overclocking my phone.

edit:

Changed to Simply Stunning build. For whatever reason, times were slightly better at the same clockspeed with widgets and live wallpaper going on. 3400-3800.

This is almost all possible right now. I have a Bluetooth Keyboard for my phone, a 800x600 display unit to hook to a projector, again Bluetooth, (although it only does PowerPoint), and printing has been possible for some time. :awe:
