Well - I go the new CPU installed, and she fired right up. I do not see any scorching or anything like that on the old one. I bought the 1-yr warranty from New Egg, so I guess I'll send it back and see what happens.

I like the new HS/F (the Coolermaster variable speed one) - but I don't like how the clip lever is so damn close to the power supply - EXTREMELY tight spaces...but the external knob is nice too...

Only problem I have right now is getting the cable modem to work. Since it has a built-in Ethernet jack, I should be able to just plug it in and go...but I don't get any data....the system recognizes when it is plugged in and when it is not....but no throughput. Windows update downloaded a new nVidia driver....but still no joy. I haven't worked it beyond that yet - but if there any suggestions out there...I'll take 'em!!

Thanks again gang!!

That's great to hear that it was the CPU afterall :) As to the orientation of the socket on that board, I didn't like it either, I was always unscrewing and removing the PSU before mounting the HS/F on the CPU so I'd have plenty of room to work in then remounting the PSU when finished, it only takes a couple of extra minutes but still annoying. BTW I was unable to make the integrated MAC controller play nice with my home network either, but I'm no networking Guru so perhaps Mechbgon will have a fix for that issue, I troubleshot that thing 7 ways to Sunday and it just wouldn't work with my router unless I reset the linksys router I was using at the time and made it the only system connected to it, then it would work perfect, but add another system to the mix and it wouldn't work, even manually configuring all the settings wouldn't get it functioning again  Anyways, bump for others to advise you on the integrated LAN issue and thanx for letting us know how it went :)

Sounds like more of a question for the Networking forum. But give us a full rundown on how your home network is set up. You have a cable modem, and a PC, and is there anything inbetween? Any other computers? What Windows version (I forgot)? How did you reach Windows Update, by dialup modem? Did you install the nVidia unified driver package from www.nvidia.com (recommended)?

Some people have indeed had issues with the onboard nVidia LAN, but I'm not positive whether it is a hardware issue or a driver issue. Worst-case scenario, you could pick up a Linksys NIC for $15 if you wanted, but we can chew on this a while first :D Glad to hear you are finally getting some action out of that system, anyway! :)

Hey guys -

I ended up just unlpugging the modem for a couple of minutes, turned that on first, and then turned on the computer - and everything worked mahvelous....NExt is hooking in the Linksys Router as well, so we'll see what happens there!

Yes, I had reached WinUpdate by modem - but now it SCREAMS!

I have not done the unified driver package yet...it is huge - and I wanted to get the cable modem done first....

Thanks again guys!

Another thing to at least keep in mind ... the version of PC-Cillin that comes bundled with this board offers a software firewall as part of its antivirus protection that I found to be not as user friendly as others I have worked with. See if this isn't causing some of the networking problems by temporarily disabling it. I set up one of these boards for my sis-in-law last week but they don't receive their cable modem hookup until this Friday so we won't know until then. When I was setting it up, I simply plugged it into my DSL connection and gave it a manually configured IP and off it went. Very fast and a very nice setup for $72.

The built-in LAN of the A7n-266-VM is linked with the southbridge so you need to install the nforce chipset drivers before it can even work, or even to have the drivers for the LAN itself to work.

Still running like a champ, rock solid, and the graphics/audio are more than acceptable for kids games.

The network through the Siemens router went great - painless and fast.

Still did not install the unified driver drivers....

Only problem seems to be periodic in IE - sometimes get a runtime error trying to download off of CNET....you know, when it automatically redirects to another page....asks if I want to start debugger...I say no, and then just start it manually.

Everything else is going well..some slight delay of the mouse/keyboard when the modem first tries to connect (Creative PCI modem)...but only 5-10 seconds...

Thanks again everyone!
