Update: Modding an Enlight 7237 (pics ready)

Soon I will be upgrading my system from a PIII700@980 to an AthlonXP system (with overclocking). My current plan is to replace the M/B (nforce2), CPU (probably xp1600), Ram (Corsair 3500) but keep everything else in place.

I must say that I have become intrigued with the idea of a "windowed side panel".

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a windowed panel for my Enlight? I like the case but I would like to take a step on the "mod side" and get some neon lights for my new system.

Not sure of the cost of a Panel but I could always spend 60-100 for a new case Link

Any advice?

thanks,
Mattlock

You could always order a window kit and put it in yourself if you can't find a premodded side panel for the case (I have never seen one). SVC has pretty good prices on cold cathodes if you decide to get one.

Wait...do you want to mod you Enlight or do you want to buy a new case?
If you want to mod your current case there are a lot of online shops where you can purchase a complete window kit.
Directron
Xoxide Modifications
Crazy PC
PC Mods
Search for window kits in any one of these online shops.

On the otherhand, if you want to purchase a new case for $60-100 dollars, here's a good place to look.
Color Cases
You could also check out the links listed above; they also carry pre-modified cases that look great and not too hard on the wallet.

Thanks for the feedback...Cubic and Blurry.... I think I'll order a window kit and put more $ towards my actual upgrade.

On the enlight case, cut out the oem fan grills in the front and rear. A window kit makes a case look sweet!

Post pics when you are done🙂

You should be able to find lots of pictures of modified Enlight 7237's online. I recall there was once a case mod contest in which everyone started out with a 7237. The most common mistake I've seen made when adding a window to this case has to do with the ventilation slots on the bottom of the right side panel. I've seen where people will hack them up or try to fill them in with bondo. It's such an obvious fix: the left side doesn't have these vents and the side panels are reversible. Simply swap the side panels around and you now have a solid panel on which to work with. The vents will then be at the top of the left side. Good luck with your project.

Take a small mod step with that Enlight...
Cut a hole in the side, centered right in the CPU/AGP area, mount a quiet 120mm fan and be happy.

Save those funds for something that gets more GO out of your system. 😀

I guess you can tell I lean more towards function than flash. 😉

Drx...thanks for the advice...I'll search the web for some pics....

By the way, I'm sure I can find a guide online but I'll ask anyway....What is the best way/tool to cut the enlight case with?

YOu can tell I've never done this before.

People will say, go out and buy a $70 dremel, or spend $30+ for a holesaw and shank.

But I say go to Lowes and buy a $5 pack of good DeWalt metal cutting jigsaw blades and go at it. 😉

Mattlock,

I am in a similar position. I really enjoy the windowed, cathode, led fan look and hate to part with my 7237 when it is quite functional. I've looked online for pre-fabbed side panels for the 7237 without any luck. I don't really have the equipment necessary to start myself and by the time I pickup a dremel, etc. I could purchase a nice Antec case with the entire side window already configured.

Someone mentioned to me to call a local metal pressing shop. They could likely punch it out in no time and hopefully not charge too much. I have yet to investigate that route.

Keep this thread going with your results. I would love to get the window and mount a couple cold cathodes in the ole 7237!

Purchasing a Dremel in order to modify just one case would be too expensive. Instead, I recommend using a hand nibbler. My favorite type can be found here. They also have a large selection of window kits and cable management supplies. Plus shipping is one low fixed rate.

Case modding can become additive, so you may eventually wish you had bought that Dremel sometime in the future.

Cool. I managed to borrow a Dremel from a friend. Now, do I use the drill-bit style blade or the miniature wheel style blade on the Dremel? I will be picking one of those up to test this out on. Also testing the window cut out on an old case to start off with.

Thanks!

I hate the 7237...you have to remove the entire front panel just to take the side off. Plus, ventilation is minimal...not a good AMD or tweakers case

seems like there are much better cases out there to use as a base for mods

I am thinking about getting a window kit from CrazyPC but not sure If I should:

a) get a "clear" window and use colored "cold cathodes" or
b) get a "red" or "blue" window and still get a colored "cold cothode" light for inside.

Which looks better?

BTW, is is possible to use more than one color inside? or not?

thanks,
Mattlock

I think some people get a little dremel happy.

Yeah, it's a great tool and it works nice for some jobs, but I tried the dremel and the jigsaw when I did my window, and the jigsaw worked better. It cut nice and clean and it didn't take me forever.

I want to cut out the front lower area for a "colored" fan. What is the best tool for cutting the plastic case material?

Got my window in (thanks to a glue gun) and my blue cold cathodes....very pleased. I'll post a pic when I figure our how to do it.

i put a window and a cold cathode in my 7237. the metal on the side panel seems to be thicker than other cheaper cases. i started out with a dremel, then tried a rotozip type saw, then ended up buying a jigsaw and some metal blades. so now i have lots of cool tools. hehehe. but i did get it cut! did the ever popular blue LEDs (which are easy to swap out, as they are socketed. i got my blue LEDs from um, i think directron? get the ones without tails if you want to do this). i also cut the grilling out of the front fan hole to free up airflow a bit, the dremel was fine for that.

i keep looking at other cases, but this thing is built like a small tank, i'd hate to get rid of it.
