** UPDATE ** -- ORDERS CANCELLED

Dell recently cancelled a *ton* of orders from the fathers day weekend double 15% ("to limit our exposure"), however they will re-instate your order if you call up and ask. Print receipts (online, email) showing original order date (for the rebate) and you are fine.

I know many of you took advantage of the recent 15% + 15% off dell deal...

one of the items that was very attractive was the Maxtor 200gb drive, which was ~225 after taxes + discounts, with a $120 MIR.

Recently, all (if not most) orders for the 200gb drive have been delayed until 6/27, with the rebate requiring that the rebate submission be postmarked by 7/7. Although this is over a week, with the UPS Ground shipping that dell uses (for everyone who chose the "free shipping" choice), this could be cutting it close.

I suggest everyone to e-mail customer service, and gripe with something along these lines:
(if we all do it, odds are they'll do something about it rather than face the possibility of hundreds of canceled orders)

(enclose your order #)
"
The above order number is for a Maxtor 200gb hard drive that I ordered and recently received word that the product has been delayed and would not ship until approximately 6/27.

What concerns me is that I purchased this item on the expectation of receiving a rebate. The details of the rebate state that the submission must be postmarked by 7/7, and that entries postmarked later will be denied.

Having the orders ship on, or soon after 6/27 will be cutting the deadline very close (assuming that the discounted shipping option dictates that the order will be sent via UPS ground). This leaves myself, and im sure hundreds others, waiting for this drive to arrive before the deadline. Should it arrive after 7/7 we would be forced to deny the package/mark return to sender as we purchased this item with the expectation that we would be receiving a $120 Mail in rebate. At the time of purchase the "availability" of the item on your site was marked as "same day" as well.

I hereby ask that Dell either a) step-up production on this item or b) increase the speed of the shipment, perhaps with a 3-day service or some method that would guarantee delivery before 7/7.

Otherwise it is my intent (and many others I am sure) to return this order.
Thank you for your time and concern.

"Step up production"? Yeah, because dell manufactures maxtor hard drives.

Now, i'm not the biggest advocate of dell, due to my brother and i's troubles with said company, but how can you expect them to fufill thousands of orders in the matter of a week. Not to mention they are not obligated in the slightest to fufill your orders in a timely manner. Hell, I doubt dell even HAS the hard drives, they usually ship things like that from ingram micro.

Dell allows you 30 days from when they ship the order to send in MIR's. At least this has been the case in my experience with them.

step up production as in, "order production", which is the term dell uses for its order processing.

" but how can you expect them to fufill thousands of orders in the matter of a week. "

-- Because I pay them to, and so do thousands of people. ;roll;

also FYI, dell regularly fulfills thousands of orders each-day. ;roll;

(first time I used ;roll;, how'd I do? it's intended to say "i'm being annoying", right?)

-- Also, the rebate is not from dell (a Dell Rebate) -- it is a Maxtor manufacturs rebate

Or how bout, maybe because dell didn't anticipate that everyone and their mother would buy tons of s#it, they dont have any in stock because they outsource their peripherals to other resellers like ingram micro. Ever consider their side of the story?

You know what, I hope you don't get your order, and in the case that you do, you get it right on the day the rebate expires.

yes, it is clear that they did not have adequate stock to fill all of the orders.

However, their "availability" did not reflect the situation correctly, and nor is it much to ask that they (if they are genunie in their notification of shipment on or by 6/27), use some shipping method that would guarantee delivery before 7/7 (which is basically any service besides UPS ground)

Thanks for the arrogant tone, cocky attitude, and warm sentiments.

How is this a hot deal?

Heck this is not even suitable for brag and moan

May be the Mods should set up another thread called "Rants of dissappointed greedy people who got in on that deal that just sounded too good"... :)

can you please stop talking out of your ass? we are all stupider for having read what you just wrote. may god have mercy on your soul.

When the website says Ships 1-2 days, and you make a contract in reliance of that, an obligation is formed.

You're free to cancel the order if you don't think they'll ship it to you in time. I don't see how Dell is screwing anyone over. (And I say this as someone who ordered this drive, and has received the delay notice. I'm also someone who has spent many thousands of dollars at Dell, and know that they always take care of their customers. So perhaps... relax.)

yeah that's true.

There's no point in canceling the order.

If it comes before 7/7, great.

If it arrives on 7/8, deny it / mark return to sender and get a 100% refund (shipping was free)

That psycho guy sure took it personal. Maybe he's a Dell employee or manager cuz normal people with lives, wouldn't bother to post or flame in this matter.

Their delayed shipment dates tend to be extremely pessimistic from my experience.

I'll tell you this.

Dell kept telling me that my item was not available to ship. First they said it was going to be one week, and then they told me that my PX171M was not available to ship for 3 weeks. So I sent them a stiff email stating:

"Save the BS and ship the order. Now.

I have already checked with your supplier/distribution center and
there are plenty of these available to ship.

Thank you."

I swear to god, they emailed me back that very day and said they were shipping the item. And get this.... they shipped it via FEDX overnight. I received it the next day via FEDX overnight delivery. This is the absolute truth.

I now am certain that they play games.

You may want to try this and see if it works for you. Perhaps if they believe that you have caught them in a lie they will expedite. I'd give it a try.

Hehe yeah I've noticed that too. I called them up once on an order and demanded a discount because I was told they would ship it faster. To make a short story even shorter... they gave me $25 back. :D

Dell thinks they can play the game, well they haven't met the AT'ers yet. ;)

«When the website says Ships 1-2 days, and you make a contract in reliance of that, an obligation is formed. »

"Usually ships in 1-2 days" is not a contract. There is no contract until the vendor has committed to the sale. Even when a contract has been made, the cure for non-performance in a situation such as this would be a refund.

If you call they will re-instate your order. They cancelled a *ton* of those fathers day weekend orders, and they are allowed to re-instate at the same order price etc...

just call up a rep.

Mine was reinstated as well with a new order date, but I asked twice about the rebate. I was assured that I would still qualify. YMMV.

Sorry to bring it back, but I wanted to update what I said and to check on others' success.

I just got off the phone with the 6-7th CSR about this. Mine arrived without any order details except for the 23rd making the rebate of course invalid. They've been giving me the run around 'cause I told them I wanted to send it back on their dime for their screw up. The last CSR agreed to credit my card the $120 if I wanted to keep it to avoid any further hassles. Of course, I'm going to miss out on the ebates 'cause my order was done over the phone, but I will end up getting the drive for about $95 after tax. Plus, I'm hoping I won't have to speak with another CSR about this. I should be receiving email confirmation about it shortly.

Anyone else try to keep the drive and get the rebate? Has anyone received any information on their rebates?
