I can't help but think that movie is gonna suck. I like big-ass war movies, The visuals look pretty sweet....but I sense really bad editing and melodrama assaulting my taste..

I'm thinking the filmmakers might have been too concerned wtih style to worry about the "script issue." Haven't seen it, but who knows....

I predict God of War II will be far more enjoyable 🙂

An old friend of mine works at WB in post-editing and has seen it evolve. She's been excited about it since they first got their hands on it. She said the key is understanding that it's a movie about the graphic novel, not about the historic event. Of course, she's a comic/graphic novel nut so she's biased.

Didn't know it was a graphic novel...figures. That's at least one promising recommendation. Although, whenever anyone says "the movie is best under the light of the original novel/comic book/graphic novel," then it's a sure sign the adaptation is poor. A film meant for the broad market should appeal to a wider audience, not just fans. You shouldn't have to fill in holes by picking up the original source.

I agree. I think the point of her clarification is that people shouldn't go in looking for a realistic and historically accurate tale.

It looks cool as hell and everyone I've talked to likes it. The eye candy should be most gratifying at least even if the script sucks.

yeah...I just can't appreciate a flick if the script is dogsh1t. eye candy is never enough to cover poor writing (again, I can't say that the movie will suck, just that it's been advertised that it will 😉) Afterwards, I imagine my response would be: "cool...that was sweet..uh, why the hell do I care?"

Think: Star Wars episode 1, 2, 3...anything with Vin Diesel in it...etc.

I liked Sin City. It wasn't the greatest, but the overboard script matched the excessive style. I just hope this can do the same. I'll rent it....

It was good. 😀

I thought the writing and narrative were pretty well done. Since so much of the film is fighting there isn't a ton of dialogue.

I don't care whether it's realistic or accurate, I just care if the writing is good. There's nothing realistic or historically about the LOTR movies; but they're wellwritten, and make for fine flicks.

Allright K1052...what's the verdict?

EDIT: you posted 2 seconds before me 🙂 would you say the fight sequences were edited well? or is it on par with "Batman Begins?" (IE, could you tell what was going on, or was it just a bunch of 1/2-second close-ups of arms and feet? 🙂 )

Well, Sin City was based on a graphic novel from the Frank Miller as well (Miller did the 300 graphic novel). That alone bodes well for the movie.

A lot of the slow motion stuff was included with the normal speed so you could see what was going on. The phalanx action was really cool.

I do know Frank Miller and Sin City (comic book geek years ago), I didn't know Miller was responsible for 300, though

March 9th is my bonus day as well. We're getting 120% this year!

Wait. What? You're getting a bonus of 120% of your annual salary? I've got the wrong job.

 on you.

I think he meant 120% of his bonus rate.

I am getting 151% of my bonus rate, which is 25% of my salary. Three more days until I get my check and 300 debuts! 😀

You don't know what debuts are? hahaha, you loser! 😛

3 more days until I get to check a more comprehensive set of reviews of 300 in order to determine whether to see it or not. Woo hoo.

Also, worth noting, vin diesel was in iron giant and boiler room, which were both good.
