I know most people don't care, but I do. I hope this is true, as no one else is reporting it yet.

I hope they don't strike. But if they do, oh well. My Cubs weren't going to win the series this year anyway :(

I hope they do, and my sympathy to the loyal fans and all the food court worker in the stadium, etc, but I sincerely hope there's a strike and hopefully this time the fans won't come back and cost MLB trilions of dollars. Both owners and players need to be taught a lesson that they're nothing without the fans, and they can't expect to milk the fans if they don't show any respect toward them.

Seems they have changed their tune and are argreeing with everyone else in saying they are still working on it.

Sounds like they are a few million dollars apart on the luxury tax ($3 mil for the first year, $6 mil for the second).

I really hope it's not true, and that the players do go on strike. It's about time these guys walked out, and the fans could really show them once and for all that 'real people' in the real world simply don't have much sympathy for striking millionaire players or the millionaire owners. A strike is needed to break down baseball and return it to the point where every team has a realistic chance. You don't have to be a genius to realize that if the Yankees spend $135 milion in payroll, and the Pirates spend $30 million, that the Yankees are going to win. The gap between the 'haves' and 'have-nots' is too great, and it's made the game boring to the average sports fan, as indicated by all the polls and surveys.

That sounds great, but it won't happen. The union has always gotten what they have wanted.

The point of a negotation is to come to an agreement with both sides compromising. The players union doesn't seem to understand that. They want everything their way. It really pisses me off. If they do go on strike, the owners are going to NEED to stand firm and not give into them (like they always do).

The players can afford to take off the fall and winter, since they aren't getting paid then anyways. If they do strike, I hope it lasts all of this year and all of next year. Most of them can not afford to take a year off. It may be the only way that the players are going to realize how fortunate they are.

That being said, I don't want them to strike. :D

I am not a big fan of baseball. But I have three 2 beer bets that the Yankees will be in the series.

As an A's Fan and Non Geek I hope they don't strike. I actually think the A's can take the Yanks this year. Hell we were just onme play away from doing it last year and we are a better team this year plus the Yanks Closer, Riveras, is banmged up and isn't so invincible. Then we can put those upstart Dbacks in their place in the Series.

This whole situation officially blows. Not only are the Braves kicking butt....the Twins are doing well, the A's are on an amazing tear. I was really looking forward to the postseason. :(

Would be quite an irony for Giambi isn't it. He probably won't cares since he's in it for the $$$ like everyone else. As for the playoff, I doubt the A's or Yankee's can take those rattlesnake with Schiling and Big Unit pitching the way the've been pitching since last year. Heck, weren't for that Kim guy, the series would have ended in 5, but if any of the two is having a subpar game, then they will be feast on easily.

How much have you watched Mulder, Hudson and Zito pitch this year? They have been awesome.

Couple that with the fact that Lidle has been unbelieveable for the past month and the A's have a legitimate shot at winning it all this year.

Of course, we have to have a labor agreement first. :D

You are probably right. Even though the A's are the hottest team in Baseball their win streak is due to them playing pathetic teams like the Tigers and Royals. Still if there are two clubs that could knock the DBacks dick in the dirt it would be the A's and the Yanks. Personally I think the A's would stand a better chance as I think Art Howe would out manage Brenly (the DBacks won the Series last year in spite of him)

Zito has been superb, with Mulder and Hudson being good, but they're presently not in the same level with Schiling and Johnson. On a 7 games series, you need to beat one of them, and they've been pretty much rock solid all year long. Also, I don't think the As would get homefield advantage in the WS, they would have to sludge their way across the Twins, and heating up for division showdown with Angels & Mariners, so that they probably end up a couple of games behind the West Champs in total wins.

No!!! no labor agreement, go on strike dang it!!! I'll gladly sacrifices the Braves season for it (getting bored with all the division title but only 1 ring to show for) :p

I care - I hope they do strike. With Football season coming up next week, no one is going to care about baseball anymore if they strike. It will be the detrimental blow to baseball that it needs.

I'd love to see a few teams eliminated - Their are a few teams as it is that can barely make payroll, with all the high salaries and low fan turnouts.

After the '94 strike, i lost all interest in baseball. This could be the dagger that tells players we're sick of their wining attitudes, outrageous salaries, drugs, etc.

As always, just my $.02

Of course you would. This way they'd avoid the embarrassment of getting beat in the Playoffs again by a team with a worse record.

the players have moved pretty far on this, much further than you'd expect based on what they've done in the past. best reason for it is that no one likes playing for a team that has absolutely no chance, and at the beginning of the season you've got half the teams in the league without a legitimate shot at getting to the playoffs, not to mention the WS. its time to just split the difference.

plus, my astros are tightening up the central. :)

Actually, the A's would get home-field advantage. In the WS, HFA changes between leagues each year, not base on records, and the National League had it last year. That being said, I'm loving the Braves season this year and hope they don't strike.

Well, it sounds like they are getting closer.

The owners agreed to forgo contraction until 2006 (the next time we will be talking about a strike, apparently).

I still have my fingers crossed. I think it will get done.

1PM press conference to state that there has been an agreement.

No contraction until 2006
Phased revenue sharing
etc

w00t! I, for one, am happy.
