UPDATE:

Went to the docs and was then sent to the hospital for an ultrasound. Just got the call from the docs office. Turns out the enlargement was the result of a Hydrocele. Antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines are being prescribed. Thanks for the everyone's help and sorry my stuff is staying with me for now.

left testicle.

After a rare "inspection" by my wife of my testicles a couple days ago, she commented that my left testicle seemed to be much larger than my right.

Lo and behold, after a self-inspection, it's about twice the size. Can't seem to recall when the size difference first started, but I do know I have had some discomfort in that area for awhile. I always chalked it up to my underwear or pants being snug.

A year ago I had a thorough examination as part of my kidney donation. I came back with flying colors, however, I don't recall them examining my testicles.

A rudementary google search indicates 1) it's either a form of cancer or testicular torsion, and 2) if there's no pain, it's most likely cancer.

What are the chances I have the cancer? Going to see the doctor Monday morning. I hope I don't die 🙁

How long have you had discomfort? Make sure your wife inspects your testicles everyday.

I can't really recall if it started before or after the March kidney operation.

Interestingly enough one of the types of cancers that affect the testicles is a renal cancer. I can't believe that would be the cause as my kidneys, or my remaining kidney, is in perfect health.

symptom of Elephantitis. When a person suffers from this condition, there is severe swelling in the affected area. In most patients, there is a huge swelling in the lower body parts such as the legs or the groin. Testicular Elephantitis, also informally known as “Elephantitis of the nuts” or “Elephantitis in the balls” is the worst a person suffering from the condition has to endure

Is it the actual testicle or just the "sack" that surrounds the testicle?
I had a (right) testicular torsion many years ago, along with an very painful infection.
When it cleared up, I was left with what the Dr. called a hydrocele testis,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrocele_testis
He told me it was nothing to worry about, just excess fluid & that he could drain it but it would just come back, maybe even worse, so I lived with it for ~25 years.
Finally decided a few years ago to have it drained. Doc drained it, all was well for a few weeks, then it came back with a vengeance!
It is now the size of a tennis ball! Doc says he can drain it again, but it likely will return even bigger.

Do a self exam, if the actual testicle is normal, but the surrounding membrane is enlarged, it's most likely a hydrocele. BUT, by all means see your Dr. ASAP just to be safe!

My advice: if it is not too large or uncomfortable, just leave it alone, if you have it drained, it may be like mine and come back even larger! (Of course, if you don't mind regular visits to drain it every few years, have it drained, but YMMV).

I believe it's the actual testicle. Hope I don't have to have it removed, but I'm hedging that I will to test if it's cancerous.

Get that dude out here. I'll fix it for you...

I have one that's about twice the size of the other as well, been that way for as long as I can remember. According to my doc it's the result of something that happened during my early development that allowed more fluid than normal to accumulate in the testicle, I don't remember the specifics as it's been years. Anyway for me it's harmless with the exception of it potentially causing a hernia someday iirc.

Edit: Sounds like this is what jupiter mentioned above.

If yours wasn't larger and now it is relatively suddenly, then yea, you'd likely want that looked at.

FYI, you're banned from the Creepy Picture thread.

Ok, seriously though, what you have is a ganglion cyst on that testicle. Sometimes known as a Bible bump, the common treatment is to hit the offending cyst with a Bible or other large book.
You're welcome.
