It seems like unless she signed a No-Compete clause when she started, the only reason she can't work for this other agent is due to the threats by her Aunt about getting him shut down. Which is nuts.

Take the job and run Lola!

Would a NC clause even matter? They both belong to the same franchise...who would she be competing against?

herself. dear auntie has become so accustomed to Lola doing all the grunt work for several years that she doenst know or want to put in the time she will need to do when lola leaves. i guess dear auntie takes every friday off and the party is about to end.

Actually her threat of getting him shut down is unwarranted and could get her in trouble unless there is a said contract of some type. Otherwise, she is just screwing herself.

Your aunt is taking advantage of you and will lie to your face about her true intentions.

Things can only go downhill from here, get out ASAP and consider it a learning experience.

How can she prevent the other agent from hiring you? You can quit, and there's nothing she can do about that... if she fires you, she can't prevent you from seeking employment elsewhere...

I think that's just a lot of talk from your aunt...

I don't think there is a solution that won't work out bad are far as family ties go. I've seen this a couple of times.

Maybe, you could float the idea of starting an agency of your own with them just as a feeler. It might not come across as so much, "turning your back on them."

No one wants to walk through life with SUCKER pasted on their forehead.

I would give my 2 weeks then go to work for the other guy. There is no way she can stop you from working for the other guy.

Best of luck.

Cheers,
Aquaman

I cannot just go work for the other guy because my aunt has a lot of "friends" in high places within our company.
She could do a lot to the other agent so badly so that he could lose his agency.
just like other companies, there are a lot of politics that go on.

I am in the process of going on some more interviews this week. I think i am going to use this as a positive move to get me off my lazy ass and make myself do better.

Well, if that's the reality of it, you have to acknowledge that. A side question - will she let the other agent alone if you DON'T work for him? If that's the case, all I can say is wow. If she's going to cause trouble for the other agent anyway, then it was doomed from the start.

I'm sorry that you had to see that your aunt only was using you. It's very sad that she can't either let you go on to a better opportunity OR pay you better as you obviously deserve. Looks like she's decided that you are her personal property.

Too bad things ended up this way, but I know you'll do better in a new position. Best of luck to you.

🙁

You knew the aunt had friends in high places right? Why contemplate (well not so bad) but get the idea to your aunt that you were looking to work elsewhere?! That would be career suicide in your situation and it just happened.

Maybe this is what you need to get a job your more happy with . Good luck with that and look out for no1. Don't let people walk over you and take advantage of your good nature. F0ck people taking advantage of you.

So your aunt killed your career with the company with the hopes of keeping a low cost effecient employee around. Sorry to hear that. 🙁

Good luck with the job search.

Like I said before, call her on it. She claims to want the best for you, then she'd better qiuit threatening a good move on your part.

your aunt doesn't sound nice
she wants you for cheap labor and holding you back from $$ and future advancement
i have to agree with others, quit, find new job (not with other guy).
you'll have more opportunities and freedom.

i got what i wanted, and i am happy!
all parties are aware of each other as well! 🙂
I grew some balls and it worked!
