My son's PC is getting BSOD every day, I already replaced the video card, memory, and the NIC. So now I will replace the mobo from an AMD to INTEL cpu, my question is if I will have any problems when booting up.
If I need to do something different, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

The problem will be the chipset or mobo drivers. As your HDD has the drivers for the AMD platform, your likely to have problems booting the Intel system.

HERE'S an AT article on how to do a mobo change w/o a reinstall. Scroll down to the bottom and see "misc notes".

Although many here can vouch for this method, I can't. I always do a reformat/reinstall.

From AMD to Intel? Thats odd ;)

Seems like too much trouble reading through that. If you have the original CDs, I just say reinstall the whole thing. My computer operates so much faster with a fresh install too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. OK, guys, will do a reformat, I already did one on his system when the BSOD started, so it will not a big deal, I asked just to be inform.

Why the change from AMD to INTEL? just got a good deal, not other reason, I like AMD :), but I could not pass the deal.

Why change mobos? Probably your son's PC is full of spyware or OS problems. Try a repair installation with the XP CD-ROM on the unit. If it works great; if not; reformat and do a reload of XP. Changing mobos CPU's etc. would be an expensive last resort.

Yeah, you will feel like an idiot if you buy that new Intel based setup to only find you are still getting BSOD's due to a bad PSU.

Buy a Enermax or OCZ PSU, and spend at least $70 on it. That way, you will still be able to go with an Intel setup if you still wish to and your problems are not solved, and you will have a high quality PSU to back it all up. I personally recommend the OCZ 420W Power Stream, but the Enermax Noisetaker ATX12V 2.0 units with dual 12V rails are cool too.

I like Seasonic PSUs... very quiet, but could be a bit more expensive than the other options above. :)

Also, does the BIOS have a screen to show voltages and fan speeds? Posting the voltage numbers from that screen might be useful to some of the more experienced folks here for diagnosis.

That case has an Antec 300W PS. The problem that I'm having now is that the backplate does not match, and since I bought the mobo, cpu combo from another member, it come without that. I already sent him a PM to see if he has the one for this mobo (SuperMicro P4SGE). Otherwise I will have to look somewhere else.

Thanks for all your ideas and suggestions.

PS: Also, I went and bought a new Ultra PS 400W.

You guys will not believed what I found. About 4 or 5 of the mobo's capacitors are bulging and out of those 3 are leaking, so I think that is the culprit for BSOD.
I bought the mobo 3 years ago, brand new, is a EPOX 8K7A rev 1.1
Still I need to find the backplate for the new Intel mobo.

That would be it. I lost an Epox motherboard to a similar problem. Oh well, at least now you have a spare PSU. ;)
