I've received fiscal approval for a subwoofer for the sentra as long as it, wires, amp, etc. etc. do not cost more than $100. I realize this is asking a lot and willl mean I can't buy anything new, but I think this can be done.

Yes I'm serious. It's going to be a bottom of the line amp and a bottom of the line sub (I'll need a box too!), but considering that the stereo it's going into isn't high end to begin with (JVC headunit I paid $130 for an two pairs of kenwood speakers, front and back, at $60 pair), I think a low end sub should fit my needs.

Any ideas? :D

*UPDATE* Here is the installed jensen sub and amp, courtesy of a sweet purchase offering from OS. The thing pounds pretty damn good, and is definitely overkill for the rest of the stereo, but I'm not complaining :) I still need to secure the box and get the wires sorted out better. sub.jpg There

Hmm.. 100$ for amp, sub and box might be stretching it. I bet you could do it for 150 though.

:D

Maybe not though. 45$ amp, 45$ sub/enclosure, 10$ for wires/misc.. lol

No idea on brands though.

You're gonna have to go used my friend.

Even a cheap Jensen amp will run you $50 and that only leaves $50 for the speaker, box and wires. The only way to get anything good would be used.

It's too bad Congress didn't approve this sooner. I threw away 4 10's and some enclosures ealier this year. They weren't the best by any means but they weren't that bad either.

I picked up a 10" Jensen from my friend in the box for $37. It works alright. Just find someone locally.

Hmm, I will have to check the locals then. $150 was the original requested budget, but I was unable to secure it! this Worth considering? A new amp for $20! hehe. The seller is trustworthy with 50 THOUSAND sales. Then I'd almost be able to buy a box/sub combo unit from bestbuy perhaps... $18 shipping, but still that's only $38 total. I guess $60 won't cover a new sub and wires, but I should be able to pick up a cheap amp like that one, a cheap sub from ebay hopefully, and then a bottom of the line box from walmart audio section *shudder*.

What will I need in terms of everything?

- cheapy sub & box
- cheapy amp
- wires...?

When I was a kid we hooked the power from the amp directly up to the battery and ran the cords into the engine compartment but I seem to recall that the amp was always on and I had to disconnect it everytime I was finished driving. We also spliced the output from my rear speakers into the inputs on the amp. That's the easiest way to do it but my headunit does have a pre-amp connection, so I'd like to go through that and do it properly to the amp if I could. Then I'd need to power it properly too (instead of wiring right to battery).

It's possible, especially used. I sold a few MTX 4202's at 40 a piece. Wiring kits can be had for like 20 bucks, then a Lightning Audio sub or something equally cheap. :D

SHOW SOME BALLS MAN! TELL HER YOU WANT MORE MONEY FOR THIS! :D

walmart sells a decent amp kit (power/remote/speaker wires, clips, fuses) for 10 bux.

Hehe, his wife's letting him spend money on his car :)

Since you won't be able to spend much on an amplifier, I recommend going with a large sub in order to maximize efficiency (In general, larger subs tend to need less power to get as loud as smaller subs, at the expense of a larger sized box).

Hey, don't knock budget brands. I built a complete car stereo system (minus the deck) from BOSS components when I was in highschool for my cheap ass car. Consisted of 2 x 12" subs, 1 750watt amp, 3-way 6x9"s in the back and 3-way 5" in the front for $200. The system sounded awesome, on par if not better than some of my friends' $1200+ systems.
