Well, I guess all's well that ends well. I hope the man learned from this unpleasant experience, even though he got off lightly.

here is my question: What happens if you see some towing guys about to move your car and run out and try to stop them?

Can they tow your car if you are right there? What if you hop in the passenger side, lock the doors, and put it in park?

My friend got his car towed from a Church's Chicken lot once. The towing place was basically cover for a whorehouse. I do not kid.The blinds parted when he drove up, and there were many scantily clad women inside with no obvious reason. And the decor was a little iffy for a towing joint. That and the Escalades with rims outside.

I'm curious about this too.

no if you are in the car they can't tow you. They can if are outside but if you get in the car they can't. I know this for a fact in California dont know about other states.

Depends on why they are towing your car, but generally(assuming some sort of parking infraction) you'll have to pay a "drop" fee, probably $40ish.

If you get into the car, again it depends on circumstances, if it's a repo the cops will be called and you'll end up in the slammer if you refuse to comply. It's unlikely, for safety reasons, that they'll tow you and your car, but you never know. In any event, when in doubt your best bet is to call the cops, trying to force a tow truck driver to just give your car back is usually a lost cause. Tow truck drivers are a unique breed, they're are used to peoples sh1t and they don't take sh1t from anyone.

I've had this very thing happen to me. I was stepping into the vehicle as the driver lifted the front of my car (by one wheel). I convinced him to drop the car and instead tow the car next to me, but then the owner of that car showed up so he made me pay the $25 drop fee.

The driver basically raced to my car the second he realized that I was running to my vehicle (I was actually leaving but stepped up the pace when I realized his intentions). Anyway he was a total jerk. I had quite a few friends present and I wish I would have taken advantage of that and suggested to them that we pursuade him to drop the car. He was a skinny dude standing only 5 and a half feet tall, it wouldn't have taken much.

Knowing it wouldn't do any good I still filed with the BBB. The BBB responded with a letter telling me that letters sent to the towing company were returned to sender.

you should have gotten all the way to the car. He would eather have to drop it or call the cops. If he towed with you in the car if would be consider unsafe tow and you could sue him for that and also he would get in troubled with the cops.
