Update: Holy Crap I just had a tooth crack on me!

Its very strange, I felt it crack and break but it doesnt hurt and it isnt bleeding...
Guess I need to schedule a dentist apointment tomorrow. I hate going to them.
This sucks...

Update 5/4/05: Well I went to the dentist today and had them look at the tooth. The broken tooth happens to be one of my wisdom teeth. The dentist sugested that it and the other top side wisdom tooth should come out. She also said that I had a couple of small cavities starting to form but that they were small enough that a deep cleaning and normal brushing and flossing should stop them. The worst part of the whole ordeal was seeing how much it was going to cost to extract both teeth. With insurance its $725. Now I have to figure out where to come up with the money and how long I can postpone the procedure until I can pay for it. Or if I feel the pain from having the teeth removed would affect my vacation.
This sucks... Still....

which tooth? is there a filling in it already?

One of the molars in the very back, on the backside of the tooh.
I can feel the side of the tooth missing with my tounge.
Up until this I havent had any dental work done.

And no I am not sticking a camera in my mouth... I dont think you could see it anyways.

so there was no filling in it? for it to crack like that it probably had a cavity in it then.

I've had that happen twice after airplane flights. Maybe something about the air pressure changes aggravates preexisting cracks in teeth?

I hate Dentists, but the last thing I need is for the damn thing to get infected or start getting worse or something. I will be going to see one.

Go see your dentist make sure to tell him/her exactly what happened. Although it is more likely for teeth with filling in them already to crack, it is not a prerequisite. There are many reasons that a tooth may crack and it would be inappropriate for me to try and diagnosis it here. The fact that you are not in pain is a good thing but don't put of having it looked at. Cracking a tooth can open it up to infection. A preventive measure might be the right course.

As much as people like calling shens and posts here on ATOT its surprising how many are willing to keep on spreading half-truths.

Root canals are a very common procedure with fantastic results and is usually painless. There are horror stories about the pain but it is usually because that is how the patient presents to the dentist. Its like getting pissed at a physician for putting you in a cast after you break your arm.

Please educate yourselves

ive had 2 root canals. I was super scared before them because it was a ROOT CANAL OMG.

But they really werent bad at all. Getting my wisdom teeth pulled was like 20 times worse cause it took like 2 days to recover.

god I love my dental coverage. I went and had threee emergency appointments, a cleaning and 3 fillings for ZERO dollars. It was amazing. They didnt charge me a dme!
