Can you explain, in detail, your load balancing setup? Software, hardware, etc.

hardware, xincom.

21 downstream, 80, 5190 and all other "protected" services got shot to wan1 (university) whenever the university could take it (read: when it's working... its reliablity sucks, thats the only reason comcast is even here). All non explictly defined services to cable only. my server (permanent trillian, ftp, ventrillo and remote desktop and seti), the ps2 and the xbox to cable only. Worked like a dream. Download accelerator over thanksgiving break was pulling in excess of 2.5 megabytes a second combining university with comcast. I'm lucky to get 180-220 when these schmucks are on... and when they "ran it" it was almost never working anyway

I am surprised they have load balancing routers for so cheap. I never heard of Xincom. Just checked out their site. They have one for $70. What the heck?

How are you able to cable and your university's LAN simultaneously? On campus apartments don't allow private providers.

It's university owned, privatley managed. Comcast knew our ResNet was collapsing under its own weight so they volunteered to upgrade all of the systems for free and the school was like- anything to reduce the strain on our part. Thus, comcast is available anywhere university lan is. I prefer to use both. I am also in the enviable position of being the only student employee in network administration (attached to ResNet for crisis consulting), so I could go into much further detail if it wasn't for my NDA... but it's a great story.

that must be a blazing connection if you're using a college LAN and cable.

i did something similar to a couple of roomates a while back when i lived in SF.

our rent was 2400 and was it divided among the three of us.

both of them were just bad roommates. i was the good one, and i knew i deserved better.

a day before rent was due, i moved out leaving them next months and future rent money to them.

i was nice and left money for electricty etc...

(this is why you dont sign those leases)

400 bucks each wasnt hard for each of them to come up with, but i think it pissed them off.

even though i did this, theyre still my brothers. I hope youll conntinue your friendship with your roommates even though this was just a minor conflict
