A while back there was a post about 3 Years Free hosting with 1and1.
There was a bunch of talk about setting the "Cost Limit" to $1.00 but when I went to sign up I noticed the following on the "Cost Limit" screen:
"Please note: Cost limit does not block the services or features in any way. This is a service provided to help you keep track of your spending. "
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT !!!. My first thought was If I read this correctly, they will NOT stop your hosting at the limit of $1 (like you would expect) but continue to charge you as your bandwidth continues at the .99c per gig.
I e-mailed 1and1 support asking and here is the response:
"You did indeed read correctly; the cost limit you can set in your control panel is for information only. You may send us a fax stating your customer ID and full name, in which you ask to set up a real (hard) limit for costs. Please do not forget to sign that fax."
Now admittedly, if you hit your cost limit they will e-mail you BUT if you blow through your cost limit and don't get the e-mail for a day or so you could find a rather large bill waiting for you.
