Hi everyone,

The coupon code is now expired; we’ll honor all sales made with the coupon code over the weekend and hope fans enjoy their games.

Thanks,

I never thought that they're going for the full ban, what I thought they would do is to just remove the extra games from people's accounts without notice. Nobody could really complain since they didn't really get the games legitimately.

But now that a CM actually stated that they will honor everything, I think there's hope that they'll just let this go. For the record, I got 11 games myself (actually received the email and did the survey, but found the slickdeals thread before I actually used the code, so I stacked them up), but I never expected that EA will let me keep all of them. If they do, well that's awesome!

Btw, the bonus funny part is the reaction of people after the above statement on the EA forum. It's from the raging people who didn't get a chance to grab anything with the code because EA expired the code early (it's supposed to run until 10/21).

This is the most sensible thing to do. It's brilliant, actually. EA successfully reeled in thousands of new Origin customers that will now be using their service to play a bunch of new games.

Thing is for MOST of those titles you don't even need origin installed to run them. Just download, install and then uninstall origin. You only need Origin for a few of the newer titles and that's it.

This was my thought as well. Even if you are giving away games for free you are still getting people to use your platform, which it turn increases the chance of sales later down the line. Personally I have been using Origin since BF3 was released, and have bought a few games on the platform since. It is a good service, very comparable to Steam, and EA's customer service is getting better as well.

Personally I picked up the Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box for free. I already own it on PS3 so getting the PC version free of charge was nice.

I only got one game out of it because I kind of figured it wasn't going to stick, but it's one I'll probably never play because I had everything else I wanted.

I skipped out on this because

a: have too many games to choose from to worry about yet another online download store

b: it was EA

c: Don't really need other reasons :)

Oh they will figure out some way to screw this up at some point, so no I don't feel like I missed out at all.

Well I'll be. I am amazed that was EA's response, I honestly expected a ban hammer to be thrown widely. Maybe I underestimated their desperation to make Origin popular and are literally willing to give away 100,000's of games to get more people on it.

That's the one thing that kept me from jumping on board. Not interested in another distribution service, ala origin, impulse etc., Steam is enough.

Maybe it finally clicked that just because I'd take the game for free doesn't mean I'd actually pay for it... and they let it slide to boost their numbers. You know what this means? When origin reports their digital units sold it's going to have a nice little bump. Not too bad for all involved methinks.

yea i feel like they planned this all along.

Which users have the most hate for EA, and probably boycott using origin? The exact people who found this deal, and got a few games for free. You have to really hate a company to turn down free.

Those users will now probably use origin, at least for the few games they got for free, and EA probably did enough to get a lot of people to at least give origin another shot.

Dont get me wrong i still hate EA, and i hope origin crashes and burns, but this was a really good move on their part.

Why all this hatred for Origin / EA?
What specifically did they do to generate such a negative attitude from so many?

I use Origin and Steam daily and think they are great services and very convenient. EA's decision to allow us to keep our "booty" from the weekend raid was very generous on their part and certainly reinforces my support for Origin. I guess it just comes down to human nature -- some folks are just insatiable.

Yeah maybe. They might have realized that a chunk of their users own only battlefield 3 and haven't bought anything else. Perhaps a ploy to boost those peoples origin games library up to the level of their steam library so they would use origin for more than just BF3.

I personally will never convert to origin or buy anything on it and i got 29 games from this ordeal. Without going into a huge EA rant it suffices to say they are just soulless when it comes to making games.

I just received an apology email from Origin because I actually took the survey and *might* not get the chance to use the code because they discontinued it early.

This email contained yet another $20 code for Origin (18 digits, I assume this one is unique).

Wow, they really went all out of their way this time!
