I work for a glassware company in Southern New Jersey theyre a French owned company. I recently discovered that they were taking these white casserole dishes that were made in France, having some guys grinders grind out the "Made in France" logo on the bottom of the dish, and then they would put a Made In USA sticker over where the original stamping was. The reason they are doing this is simple: There is still an anti=french sentiment in the US (understandable, to me) and they know some people won't buy them if they say made in france. But this is clearly illegal, obviously a felony. My question is who do I contact about this? I doubt this is the first time they've done this kinda thing, they are pretty crooked...

Any suggestions?

EDIT: They aren't putting Made in USA stickers on them after all. THey were grinding of the original stamping because there was a mistake on it. The woman who told me they were putting the USA stickers on apparently didn't know what she was say, which was kind of odd because she was right there by the machines doing it...:p

OH well, nothing to see here, move along....

I don't agree with the made in America stickers, but maybe they could just grind off France.

If you have ethics then report them to the FTC or a similar agency. If you value having a job you will edit your post and ask without the company name. If they get hit with major fines you could lose your job period. Ethics or livelihood pick one. Snitches never win.

haha way to post the company name as well as having your real name in your profile as well as your location so they'll know who said it.

Your state's Attorney General's Office might be interested -- AGs love to fight for truth and justice. (Even if it is partly to help when they run for governor later on :) )

Be careful. What you consider wrong may not be illegal.

Grinding off and remarking "made in america" may be enough (by the letter of the law) to make it so.

Notice many companies claiming things made here. Well, modified may be case however "made in America" requirements are ridiculously lax to begin with.

Approach with caution.

You could post it in a public forum and see how fast word spreads... oh, wait... nevermind. :D

Call your local TV show if they have one of those watchdog guys. They're vicious. Sit back and laugh at the manager when he's squirming on TV!

That sorta thing took place where I worked a few years ago. Iron casting foundy, we made sewer grates, manhole's, manhole covers, lotsa large iron castings.

One day U.S. Customes raided the place, like a S.W.A.T team :)

The guys (me and the other union employees) in the foundry had no clue, the machine shop guys were gettin castings from somewhere else and grinding identifying stuff off.

Not sure of all the specifics, I was new young and dumb, also took place on 1st shift

technically since they worked on them in the states they might be able to put that on them.
