I didn't do it, but cheered on a couple friends who did.

First from around Belmont/Sheridan. then went down to the finish line, which was NUTS.

Also, the Runaway bride apparently never made it to the 5k marker.

But anyhoo. Congrats on doing it!

Thanks 🙂 The finish line was crazy. Thanks for cheering 🙂 Hearing people clapping and screaming makes your run so much easier!

Awesome man! That's a great time! I'm still running XC this year so no marathons for me yet, but I'm planning on running a small local marathon next year.

And to those of you who think 26.2 miles is a big deal, there are ultramarathons that are 50 or 100 miles in length and take as much as 24 hours to complete. Now that is putting your body through hell. And I will run one someday 🙂

Damn you people are in good shape. I cant imagine running 25 miles.

26.2 to be exact, but who's counting 😉

Marathons for me will probably always be a spectator event.

Someone has to spectate 🙂 Trust me, spectators are ALWAYS appreciated!

Thanks! Definitely let me know how that goes 🙂

You should read "Ultramarathon Man." I just finished it a month or two ago, really a fun read if you wanna read about a psycho runner 🙂 That guy has run 262 miles, straight.

And in regards to running an ultra, I don't think I'll do that. I said I would, but now that I've done a marathon, I think that's plenty for me. I'd definitely be walking part of it if i did. 😛

Much respect from me. I've never been a long-distance runner, even when I was young and fit. I was more of a sprinter. Good job and congratulations.

Yup. That's my goal. I'm going to be running marathons just to see how much I have left upon finishing. I was at a point 5 years ago at 6' 145 including weight training that I felt I could run literaly forever. Marriage and kids halted that, but I've been running again for 6 months now that I have time again.

That's about Dean Karnazes, right? He's sick. Truly a machine. I don't know if I would ever want to run quite that fsr, but I definitely want to attempt at least a 50-miler. I want to know just how far I can go. I'd have a tough time with thew walking part like you said. I think I'm too stubborn to let myself walk and if I did, I'd feel like I let myself down.

If you've never done one before, it's quite the experience. It's definitely a big commitment though, so I could see how kids/wife would slow that down. Good luck when you do complete one!

Yep, that's the book 🙂 And it looks like we have the same problem with walking... as that would bother me too(unless I still finished in my goal, but that probably wouldn't happen).

Something I'll never understand is how some people yesterday stopped on the course for pictures with their families. If I'm not giving it 110%, then it's not worth doing it. I'll take pictures AFTER I finish... I guess it's just different strokes for different folks.

Did they let people wear headphones? I listen to music half the time when I go running.

It's funny because I don't run in time to the music. I just find it easier to concentrate on my running when I have distractions.

The reason I ask is that my half marathon coming up in a couple weeks doesn't allow them and I thought that was odd, but they cited safety issues. I wouldn't run the marathon with headphones, but a half is just double my typical routine so it's no biggie.

Yes, they allowed headphones. I don't think you'd want to wear them though, it's more fun to hear people cheering for you 🙂

Man, what an accomplishment. Can you tell us how you trained?

Yeah, I used Hal Hidgon's training schedule for the Novice(last time I used the Intermediate when I did it myself, but this time I was training with a group and they wanted to use the Novice one). I can tell you both of them prepare you to run 🙂

Here's the link. There's a table at the bottom that shows the training.

Doing a half-marathon at the end of this month. If it goes well, I'll do the International marathon in Sacramento this December. Only 5,000 in it usually though.

I think anything under 8 minutes is fantastic. Congrats.

Hey Im doing the same thing. the 4 Bridges? then the CIM? I am running the Clarksburg 30k in between too hopefully.

Good Luck on the 30th!

My friend flew in from Dallas to run that. 🙂 She had a 7:50:xx time because in the 18th mile her leg got fubared so she walked/hobbled the rest of the way. 🙁

That sucks. But congrats to her for finishing the remaining 8 miles in pain! You know what happened to her leg?

I did a 5k of Saturday. It isn't long but it includes 1000 stairs (up only) and knee killing downslopes.

Bisbee 1000

Musicians playing along the route, it's a blast.

Bisbee is an odd town, fun but odd.

I've heard interviews with that guy. I don't think he's so much an athlete as someone with severe OCD.

edit: OP, congrats. That's a very good pace for a n00b.
