Which make has the better truck from this time??

Ford, Toyota, Chev, Dodge, other??

I'm in the market for a very inexpensive small truck. This range of years seems to be about the right price point. Anyone have a suggestion or a warning on any make?

*UPDATE* Well, it's (almost, just finishing paperwork) official! We're getting this truck. for $4000. :D

Test drove it last night. The thing looks nearly new. I was impressed since it has 139k miles on it.

My suggestion would be a Chevy S-10 with the 4.3L V6. Stay away from the 2.8L V6.

What are the issues with the 2.8L?

Worst. motor. evar.

Seriously, it's not a good motor at all. Do a quick google search and I'm sure you'll come up with more info than I could tell you.

I don't know about long term reliability of the 2.8L (my brother had a S10 for 8 years and never had a problems with his 2.8l) but it lacked power for hills, etc.

s-10's are awesome in my opinion...

I've had 2 fords, one was a 4 banger 90' w/150,000 miles then it just up and died

the other was a v6 with 196K miles on it and that thing just had electrical and fuel pump issues beyond fixable..

Whatever you buy, let me know how it goes. I wouldn't mind buying something like that myself to go with my new home.

as much as i hate to say it, a yota with a 22RE is what you need. Make sure you get the stick, the autos in those things sucks.

I had a '91 Ranger that I absolutely beat the crap out of and it was still running good with 120k on it when I got rid of it (that was in '97).

The Toyota's of that era also wouldn't be a bad choice (gaaahhh! did I just say that?!?), but as was mentioned, get the FI.

Went out and looked at a very nice 1994 s-10 w/ 137k miles, but it looks like new!

V6, 4wd, bed liner, towing package....

They're asking $4,500.

Hopefully the bank will give me some money. :)

Looks like a nice truck.

Just for your info, I just bought a 1993 Dodge Dakota with the 3.9 V6. Even though most people complain about that engine, I like it. My truck is a 4x4, extended cab, auto, working A/C, 140,000 miles, power locks, power windows, lumbar support, rear sliding window, bed liner.

I paid $3750. I think it was a pretty decent deal.
