Hi everyone..

Im helping a friend of mine to buy an ok graphic card that is very(!) cheap 🙂

I stumbled over this one at the local store: Local store

Can someone tell me what model this actually is? Is it the old Radeon card?

Can it be used for anything at all when it comes to gaming ? (He is using a Duron 1 Ghz)

Thanks alot

How much is your friend looking to spend? The gf 4 MX440 is relatively cheap(~ $77 on pricewatch) & is actually not a bad gaming card for the money.

Yes, this is the old Radeon card.

I bought the PCI version with DDR memory.

Pretty descent card for my secondary monitor. How good it is for gamming I do not know.

Ugh! Get it away! It's a RadeonVE, a Radeon with a castrated memory system, no transform and lighting, half the pixel pipelines etc..

Performance between a Geforce2 MX 200 and a Geforce2 MX 400. Bad bad bad bad bad.

Try getting a Geforce4 MX 440 or wait for the new SiS graphics cards.

This is a Radeon 7000, that uses the Radeon VE chip and has no texture and lighting (T&L). It is currently the lowest model Radeon you can get.

You can use it for gaming no problem, but don't expect miracles...it probably performs about the same as a Voodoo 4. It still has ATI's good 2D image quality and DVD acceleration, though. What games are your friend going to be playing? It'll handle Counterstrike maxed out at 800x600, but certainly newer games like Jedi Knight 2 you will have to scale back the 3D video options.

Sorry pcclub2000... when you dont have the money, you dont 🙁

It will be one or the other in the pricelevel ~70 US$ (btw GF4 MX440 isnt avaliable in here for 77$🙁)

Thanks

The GeForce2 WAS an incredible value ($60), and could be clocked up to GTS speeds easily, but now with the GF3 Ti200 being forced down so low (Below $100 soon), it makes no sense!

<< Anyone know about the 7500LE ? >>

Yep, I've got one in one of my computers. My one has Samsung 4ns ram so it can get up to some good speeds, but at default it is already a good deal faster than my Geforce 2 GTS. The Radeon cards are also faster at 32 bit colour than Geforce 2's, which is why I'm looking at getting another Radeon for this machine - man I'm just sick of this ugly 16 bit colour but if I go 32 I lose my framerate.

7500LE has the second best Radeon chip you can get! The only difference between that and the 7500 is that it is missing the extra DVI output (for multiple monitors). My gf has a 7500, it is a great deal. Works very well, and the 2D quality is excellent, much better than her Voodoo3.
