Update: acquitted - Teacher vs student sex case: he said vs she said.

I have to agree with dennil, the teacher's story seems a lot more plausible, my gut feeling is that the kid has had fantasies about the teacher and is imagining incidents, but the texts are the key to the case. Reading the texts -- especially those from her to him -- should make it clear what was going on, if anything.

No matter what was going on, I didn't see anything in the article about any evidence to support the kids assertions, I would think the police or DA would need more than just his word to charge her in this case. I'm assuming the DA has read the texts and still decided to proceed, so they must have seen something there.

I cannot see how the kid did anything illegal, even if the teacher is telling the truth? Being rejected by a woman is not illegal.

He sexually assaulted her if her version is true. Later came the fabrications, possibly to cover his ass.

let's read those messages......
2200 messages over a year are like 6 a day... it's believable if he "mentored" (whatever that means) the kids everyday.

anyway gym and french? what a weird combination.

Yep. Though, the teacher (and teachers in general) should have avoided any kind of dual relationship with the kid period. School related is fine, but not babysitting at the house and certainly not freaking texting.

IF you go off the teacher the kid lied to police, lied to the school and destroyed her life. yeah i would put that in illegal.

from those two articles it really puts her in a good light. it depends on those text. the article points to them as him begging for forgiveness.

i kinda disagree. the kid wanted to Mentor kids (great idea. i think kids need older kids to learn from. they do the same thing in my kids teakwondo and gymnastics).

hell having a teacher like this is great. I got to admit i had one teacher like her. IF not for him my life would be terrible. He helped give me focus, direction and having someone who is not family back you like family? yeah for some kids that is the difference in the kids life.

Kristi Jackson, of Rogers Communications, testified Thursday Gowans’ cellphone and the teen’s exchanged 2,218 text messages over a year starting February 2009.

that's a hell of a lot of text messages... I'm going to guess the kid is telling the truth... but as someone stated, the content of those messages will be the key.

I don't text but just looking at my post count, I don't think that's excessive. Like Murloc said, 6/day.

I know, I know....lurkers wouldn't understand.😛

"It took a second to realize what was going on. Then, I pushed him back and said, 'What are you doing? Stop!'" she told Justice John McMahon.

"He looked a little shocked and I was extremely shocked. This was right out of the blue for me. I had absolutely no idea this was coming," said Gowans, who has since separated from her husband after being charged and losing her job.

"This is not a day I could forget what happened."

so which is it? you were so sober and clear minded but when he kissed you there was a pause? of course there was. because you had sex with him right after.
