update: 3 killed, 5 wounded at Michigan State U, suspect dead

Pohemi

Lifer
Happened in a residence hall, and they of course locked down the campus and the rest of the residence halls.

'Police say a man has shot at least five people at Michigan State University, and some have life-threatening injuries....Rozman said hundreds of officers were on the East Lansing campus to maintain safety and catch the gunman....

...Separately, police reported a shooting at IM East, a recreational center for students.'

Why is it the "authorities" seem to always say they are trying to determine a "motive." That almost always strikes me as evidence that they are clueless concerning the nature of these episodes.

It is very important to put things in a box and file it away as explained. We can't have people going around looking for a deep explanation of why people are violent. We need to pin it on someone or something like a missed welfare check, a relationship breakup, being fired from a job, etc. We must never consider that we are all insane because the system the successful among us worship and perpetuate is competition and competition is hate. We must never look at the fact that it isn't the gun but the mad man behind it that our system shits out in huge numbers. Guns would never be an issue in a country full of mentally healthy citizens and there is nothing our mentally ill system will do to create that. We need more control, more restrictive laws, more people in prisons.

Meanwhile let's ignore the prison we have created where the goal of every everyone is to be able to pay the warden for a cell with a view of Manhattan.

You're going OK there until you give the gun manufacturers a pass, which is looney.

Not sure where I gave gun manufacturers a pass on anything. My point is that a focus on guns is the result of a psychological need that becomes the motivation for blaming them instead of what we deeply hold sacred and is the real source of the issue, our competitive economic system. We need the rage against guns to protect us from self awareness. I am not saying give gun manufactures a pass. I am saying that we don't want to give gun manufacturers a pass because we want to give that pass to ourselves. Your point would be self consistent if you believe that in a mentally healthy society guns would be an issue. I don't think they would.

Mental health issues are never addressed because nobody wants to know that they themselves are sick. We are the system and the system is us, self perpetuating madness.

We just haven't had enough thoughts and prayers ...
They should syndicate them. How about having a generic thoughts and prayers blurb on the back of the boxes that assault weapons come in? 🙄 Uh, ammo boxes too... Could start putting them on all official ballots, voter information guides, a 15 second one at the end of all newscasts... let's be creative! 😛

Sadly, the people we put in power don't care. We will see more of these mass shootings.

Mass shootings aren't going to end. In fact, I believe that its going to get worse.
Well, it's been getting worse and worse and worse. You know what they say? "A trend is a trend until it isn't" 😉

I like it. Sort of like warning labels on cigarettes, but just the opposite tone. "Praise Jesus, and pass the ammunition (contained inside)"

Nothing meaningful will ever be done. Zip. If any of Sandy Hook/Vegas/Parkland couldn't move the needle, I can't see anything doing it.

Makes sense when you've got 30-40% of the population fighting wars against enemies that don't even fucking exist (CRT and drag queens) while this shit continues to pile up.
