WOW...i haven't read anything about these new chipsets, let alone even heard of them. i haven't noticed any press releases in the news at any of the major hardware sites at all. so what are the major differences between these new chipsets and the 845E/G, other than what's already been mentioned here?

well, technically these are new chipsets according as labeled so by Intel, even though we know they are just revisions of the 854E/G (just as everybody's talking about a soon-to-be SiS 648DX chipset, which will officially support DDR400). i would like to see at least one review, either the 845PE or 845GE. and unless the 845GE has as profound an effect on the industry as the 845G did well after the release of the 845E, i wouldn't expect a review on it.

whats interesting is that i don't really see much of a difference between the 845G and the 845GE. according to the link posted by lookin4dlz, the 845G only officially supports DDR266, while the GE officially supports DDR333. now for some reason i always thought that the difference between the E and the G was integrated graphics AND official DDR333 support...is this not true? is integrated graphics in fact the only difference between the E and the G, making the G and the GE different?

Looks like these new chipsets just have serial ATA and *official* support for DDR333. The 845PE doesn't have the built-in graphics, so we'll save $5 on that board...

I thought that the SiS 648DX and P4X400A chipsets were shelved - permanently - in favor of dual channel DDR products.

oh, i dont know...maybe you're right. all i know as that, at one point in time not too long ago, rumors about a SiS 648DX chipset were floating around the forums, indicative of SiS 648 chipset w/ official DDR400 support.

I think the SiS is pulling back a little, BUT Via's P4X400 is still going strong, at least thats what VIA says. The P4X600 is in the works but there shpould be more P4X400 boards coming.
