I had it chipped with an APR stage 1 4 program CPU - stock, valet, 1.0bar boost and 100octane. The chip ups power from 250hp and 258ftIbs to around 330hp and 370Ibs, the 100 octane adds about 20 more hp and is well worth it if you can find the gas to put in it. 😀. Its a lot of fun to drive, as long as you take care of it it should be a great car 🙂

80 HP gain with a chip?
Another 20 for using 100 octane ?

My friend.. .I have some land in Florida you might be interested in.

On Topic: Go with the S4 ... great cars. Don't forget the snot factor of having an S4 .

I have a stock 2003 A4 Quattro 1.8T. Stock HP is 170. With a chip I can take it to 215HP with no other modifications. With a chip and new fuel injectors it will go 235HP. With chip, injectors, and exhaust goes close to 300. Add a new turbo to push it up around 340HP. So basically I can drop about $5k and double my HP, taking it to the stock HP of an S4. Now granted there are other considerations (turbo vs. non turbo, I4 vs. V8, etc.), but you get the picture.

The audi will outhandle and out accelerate the acura. Not to mention that the S4 has 10x the baller factor and will be a lot better for winter/snow driving. Expect to pay at least 30% more for the maintenance. It will cost you about $2K to get 400hp out of the s4 too 🙂

<- owns an a4

If you care to check APRs website you will see that im not smoking anything 🙂 LINKYI run on 94 octane here in PA (my local gas station sells that as well as 93, but not 100 anymore 🙁) The standard S4 is making way less power that it can - even in Europe the stock S4 came with 300hp rather than the 250hp the US versions had. All APR does is turn the boost up to the level the twin turbos can take comfortably. Hell, the RS4 in europe was making 400hp with the same engine, just slightly bigger turbos. As far as time, i took my car to place in Norton Ohio to have it done, they do it while you wait, or you can send in your ECU and they do it for you. Its cool because you can change it back to stock in a few seconds (using the cruise control button) if you need to.

I decided to go for the s4 & have it chipped. I will stop by the dealer tomorrow & put down a deposit. I hope it hasnt been sold

People ar throwing alot of numbers around.....unreasonably high gains from playing with fuel management and timing and turbo boost. Who's numbers are these ....the garage that sells /installs the chips or the manufacturers of said chips ? I didn't see any gaurantees anywhere on the APR site ....just numbers.
Just think of all these real race teams that waste thousands of dollars and spend hours and hours rebuilding, porting engines when all they could do is just shoot $500 over to ARP and gain 80HP in an instant .....what a bunch of schmucks . If only they knew the real deal.

S4 without a doubt! Had a S4 avant for a bit and I enjoyed it (but not as much as the E46 M3, so goodbye S4). You won't regret the choice if you go with the audi.

bs on the 65hp gain with an exhaust. I frequent vw/audi forums.
Throwing around prepackaged exaggerated numbers is a pasttime on the internet.

For 5K you can (in perfect conditions) have nearly the power of an s4. Drop that same 5K into an s4 and it will make your a4 look like it's standing still.

man at least update the title stating that you already chose.

But good luck on your purchase. I hope you have plenty of great driving experiences in it and very few problems.

Although I'm an Audi owner, I'd have to say the TSX. It won't be as fun to drive, but it's newer, and it's probably easier on the wallet in terms of maintenance and gas.

When someone says exhaust on a turbocharged car, I consider that to mean turboback exhaust. Two downpipes w/ exhaust would probably run about $2k, but free up a lot of power. I'd believe 60hp.

Yea, see my edit. Exhaust is exhaust in my mind, not up/down pipes.
Either way, he's comparing a souped up 4 banger to a truly powerful v8. Typical.

Get the one with a NAVI. The thing makes a huge difference (to me). I dont think i will ever get a car that does have a navi.
