HenHowC, is this at default voltage? If so, you should at least try 1.65v.
Nealh Lots of CR chips coming from Newegg, I wouldn't use them if you want a Malay.

i've gone up to 1.65V...150FSB will not boot... 145FSB will boot but sandra will give me errors...140FSB i get prime95 errors after about one minute...after this i just bumped my voltage back to 1.5 and FSB133...screw it 2133mhz is good enough for me! (for now) ;)

Guys, this deal is really heating up. So far, I do not see any reports problem of getting < 133 x 16.

The price of the 1.6a just drop few bucks. $142 @ Google and $150 @ Mwave.

133FSB should be fine cuz you aren't overclocking your memory at this point...i think everything after that is dependent on your system and mobo...memory etc.

$141 now @ Googlegear. That's was quick.

While searching for the best price of 1.6a and happened to see the price of the official P4 2.2Ghz. Just post if ones want to know.

Lowest Price: $541.00 @ Cnet shopper

Oh man, I just ordered one from Googlegear this afternoon for $142. What a rip off. Of course, I did use Blue, so I guess I'll be calling Amex in a couple months...

In the benchmark results, the Athlon XP 2300+ cannot quite keep pace with the Intel Pentium 4/3000, but the values that we measured are very impressive. In order to outperform the Intel Pentium 4/3000, AMD must switch over to 0.13 Micron in order to enable higher clock speeds. According to our laboratory results, with a speed of 1933 MHz, AMD can reach the performance of a Pentium 4/3000 based on DDR SDRAM. This clock speed can only be achieved by the new Athlon XP with the Thoroughbred core, which is expected soon "toms hardware"

hehe.. poke poke in the ribs.. poke poke..
1933 mhz is all it takes to beat a 3.0 ghz? my my.. whats the world coming to. :D

Ok.. all harassment aside.. at least you don't have 6 fans running :D

Wow! My P4 1.6a runs at 2128MHz (2.1GHz) no sweat. Voltage is at default 1.5V and I'm using Intel heatsink and fan. Haven't tried higher fsbs.

In WinXP and Geforce 3 TI 200, Quake3 demo was 173fps. In my old rig, a Via chipset mobo + Celeron 1.2 Ghz and same video card, I could barely manage 50fps.

I played Max Payne for about 15 minutes and 3D animation was smooooooth at 1024x768 32-bit. Now, which one to get for my new rig: Ghost Recon or Medal of Honor?

My P4 1.6a is from Malaysia and I got it at mscomponent.com.

All this successfully overclocks makes me want to jump in as well. I currently have an AMD 1900+. Overclocks nicely to about 2.2ghz. I must be crazy to want to do this as I will probably not notice much different in speed between my overclocked AMD 2.2ghz and a Intel 2.4ghz.

I'm guessing that if your xp1900+ overclocks to 2.2 Ghz, it'll be a downgrade for you to move to intel. Or maybe you mean it overclocks to xp2200+ level... either way, I'd probably not do it unless you want lower temps.

I still haven't been able to heat up my 1.6a @ 2.4 with 1.6v :)

Anyone that reads a lot of reviews realizes that that Toms Hardware has an extreme anti-Intel bias. I think you can see that if you re-read that or any of their other chip reviews (compare the negative language they use about Intel to reviews at other sites). They've been like a stalker with a hard-on for Intel ever since they helped discover that a few of th initial PIII 1.13GHz chips had problems. It's time they gave up the crusade & just report the facts. By the end of the year when we get 3GHz Northwoods that can oc to over 4GHz without special mods (on the boards we just bought while AMD will probably need a new board for the new chip), Toms will come out with another "wait 'til next year when AMD can______"

I am definately agree with lookin4dlz!

Not only hardware review sites but also magazines. When they compare Intel versus AMD their language more favarable to AMD!

I have to agree that AMD is a great CPU likewise Intel especially a .13 micron Northwood.

I just wanted to say that I hope no one thinks I was trying to flame AMD owners. I used to be one until my chip (that wasn't even being overclocked) slowly died on me. Cost me a lot of time & frustration because I didn't know what was wrong with my system. Since then I've been running completely stable with an oc'd Intel chip.

regardless on which brand processor you have or prefer, let's just be thankful that there are these choices for us to make. otherwise, we definitely wouldn't be seeing processors capable of 2.5 GHz sold for only $140. competition is great for the consumer :)
I personally have changed my mind every day for the past week trying to decide which chip and mobo to get and I was leaning to this 1.6a with Asus p4b266, but yesterday I saw that thread for the XP1700 combo from TCWO for $129 and I couldn't pass it up. :p

Yes you're right, I mean Athlon 2200 (FSB 150x12). At this speed under full load my temps are in the high 50's, so I don't overclock when I'm ripping dvd's and such. Hence my interest in the Intel 1.6A. If its as cool as everyone says it is overclocked and under a full load I'm all for switching to Intel.

I agree the temps with the athlons are a real issue...I have to take a chance and give up my 150 fsb...but I am pretty sure as temp rise this spring and summer in FL..my cooling will probably not be adequate for a 150 fsb.....and I do not want to spend more money on cooling.....

Automator,
The P4S333-M is a Micro-ATX board. It fewer pci slots than the standard P4S333. I thought about it too, but went with the P4S333.

On the P4S333 thing - I have the big board. The onboard sound is quite good and you can do 5.1 sound (minus the onboard microphone). I think I shoulda went for the MicroATX board considering the $$ savings + an onboard NIC. If you use both the NIC and sound, the micro board is your choice. I can't comment on the onboard NIC for this board, but the SiS 735 board I have has good onboard LAN

Does this all work together for a good system if I add mu ASUS GeForce 2 GTS (V7700) 32 MB card ? Or am I over doing/under doing it ? Heck, I cannot even figure out if this is the MB Memory that requires Pairs I have been so out of upgrading so long). :)
