Oh, by the way - DVDs haven't been around for 10 years.

Yes they have! CD players have been around for 22 years but most people would argue differently.

Cheers!
I think the standard was agreed upon in like 1995 😛

I think you need to google you old fogie. I had a CD player in 1987 and a DVD in 1995 after my laser disc player in 1993.

History of DVD

According to the link above, DVD players were unveiled at the CES show in January 1995, and expected to hit the consumer market in late 96. This sounds about right to me, as I also owned a laserdisc player in 93 and upgraded to the pioneer dual LD/DVD unit in the 96-97 timeframe.

So, not quite 10 years old.

Edit: PS, yes, the first CD players hit the market in 1982....

Edit2: Oops, sorry... CES in 1995, not 2005... my bad... was thinking about going this year. 🙂

I STILL feel bad for my dad having bought one of those big pieces of crap back in the early 90's!

Ok so it really is 1995... 😛

I thought for sure my first was 1994.

But yes I've had this stuff for a while. I have a habit of not letting things go when they should've been gone years ago! I still have a Fisher (called The Fisher then not to be confused with the junk of modern times) 400 tube receiver with working FM beam tube. I won't even mention the Garrard Lab 80 with its raspy Pickering cartridge. (the stylus is worn) I have a pair of Lafayette Criterion 2002A speakers with rotting woofer surrounds and blown tweeters from a 1979 New Year's party when the volume was cranked to 11 and the radio station played Styx Renegade.

Yeah my wife says I should really clean house. 🙂

Cheers!

that fisher receiver is pretty nice, I wouldn't get rid of it or you may be able to get a pretty penny for it.

A lot of audio guys are into vintage stuff, they made some pretty beefy amplifiers/receivers back in the 70s
