Yes, I do understand that a machine or a piece of software cannot display data that simply isn't there. All the upconverting is to make things look nicer at high resolution while providing the "feel" that images are more crisp.

Having said that, there are a lot of hardware upconverting dvd players out there. Since I typically play DVDs through my computer, are there any good upconverting software DVD players out there? Thank you for sharing your experience and insight! 🙂
 
Any DVD player (codec) does that automatically, but there's ati and nvidia hardware that is supposed to make it even better, it works with powerdvd 7.0, nvidia purevideo for example
