Upcoming media tablet

I'm starting to see a disturbing trend where these devices are starting to come chained to a subscription to a cellular provider. Is this going to be the case with the iTablet, or whatever it's going to called, or will it have stand alone wifi funtionality?

Well.. being that it's still speculation that this device is even coming out.. I'll speculate. I think that if it comes with a service like WhisperNet on the Kindle.. then all will be well. But I wouldn't want to pay $35/mo for 3G service and $600-800 for the device.

seeing as how not a single person outside of apple knows anything about this "product", hard to answer

One guy knew... but now he's dead 🙁

Mugs were you refering to that chinese guy that lost the prototype? I think he lost the iphone prototype right?

lol we'll see about that.

I bet if it comes out, it has a 400ish price tag locked to att for 40+/month.

Yeah it was referred to as a 4th generation iPhone, but it happened right around the time the 3G S came out (seems kind of early to have working prototypes of a 4th generation iPhone), and this media tablet has been speculated to be very similar to an oversized iPhone so... do the math. 😉

Well think about it...how useless would a Tablet be without an anywhere-Internet connection? 😛 It's like the iPod Touch...yeah it's cool on it's own, but you miss out on so much more functionality by not having cellular Internet with you whever you go!

I would hope the iTablet would be available like netbooks. Some come discounted with a mobile contract or you can just buy one on your own and use wifi.
