This is like ~10% faster than a 260x.

But its avg power consumption is ~52watts instead of 84watts of a 260x.


How the hell did Nvidia manage to get 60% power usage, but +10% performance of a 260x ?
 
The perf. per watt and perf. per mm^2 of GTX 750 Ti is really good.

Remember that most websites (including Anandtech) measure system power consumption. So if you were able to isolate just GPU power consumption, GM107 efficiency is very impressive relatively speaking (this is 28nm HP fab. process, not HPM!).

Looking at Anand's review, GTX 750 Ti consumes 52w less (!) power at peak than GTX 650 Ti Boost in Crysis 3!

how do you know?
 
A card without the need of a PCI-E plug is always a cool plus when using it in a low/mid range system or an HTPC, I used a 9800GT low power edition card in my old HTPC and it was nice. Still I don't mind cards that just needs one 6-pin plug (my 7850 has only one 6-pin) and still provides plenty of GPU muscle.

The problem with the R7 260X is that it has worse performance/watt than either an HD7790 or an HD7850:

The only thing different between the R7 260X and the HD7790 is that the former has a 100MHZ boost in GPU and RAM clockspeeds,and the audio SOC is active. Yet the R7 260X consumes 20% more power than an HD7790.

Amazing performance/watt push. Quite nice to see capable GPU without additional power connectors.
But the performance/$ is bad - well, that not a surprise from nvidia, is it? Oh well, nice card, but price could be better. I guess if someone can't afford PCIe power connector, will pay the premium
 
Comparing the 750Ti to a 260X is invalid IMHO. The 260X is $20 cheaper. The 265 is the same cost while outperforming the 750Ti in the majority of tests. Although it does use more power.

So it comes down to spending $150 on lower power, or higher performance.

  • 2.540 vs 1.870 The new card uses 73.6% of the 28nm Transistors
  • 221mm^2 vs 148mm^2 The new Die Size is only 67.0%, thus less cost for Nvidia

Benefits for OEMS
  • 140w max tdp vs 60w max tdp. The new card tdp has a tdp reduction of 57.1%, that means the old card had a max power consumption that is 233% higher than the new card.
  • 50 Watts lower on load power consumption for crysis 3
  • 63 Watts lower on load power consumption for Furmark (power virus)

Benefits for consumers
  • $190 is the cheapest gtx660 on newegg, the gtx 750ti has a msrp of $150, that is a reduction of $40 dollars, or the new card costs 78.9% of the old card.
  • 55.4 fps vs 48.0 fps 86.6% Battlefield 1920x1080 High Quality
  • 43.2 fps vs 37.6 fps 87.0% Metro Last Light 1920x1080 High Quality
  • 67.7 fps vs 49.9 fps 73.7% Crysis 3 1920x1080 Med Quality (note this game is the worse case performance for the gtx750ti from the games Ryan Smith tested.)

So in effect the card gets 85% the performance of the old card, but it is 78.9% cheaper. You also get all the power benefits for FREE. Thus if you can enjoy games at the level the gtx 750ti can put out it is a no brainer compared to the old gtx660.

This card is going to be highly desired by OEMS and system builders, you have gone from a card (gtx660) that requires two six pins and a dual slot cooler to a card that requires zero six pins and can be single slot. Hell aftermarket video card sales (best buy, frys, microcenter, etc) would also like this card for it is an easy simple upgrade you can suggest without needing a new psu. Nvidia had a nice slide comparing the batman performance with an i5 quad core and intel hd 4600 (8 fps) vs gt640 (22 fps) vs gt 750ti (53 fps). This card can easily go into the crappy 300w psu that you find in crappy oem boxes (the slide had a picture of an hp but with the logo removed).

Furthermore this card is almost laptop ready already, you will barely be needing to reducing clock speeds / voltages to fit it into a laptop. A gtx 750 is already at the tdp you find a gt 750m (which is based off the gtx 650 but with a 9% clock speed reduction). A full gtx 750ti can easily fit in the same volume once you do some binning. These are chips you can easily put into a macbook pro retina, a razer blade or a msi ge40 or ge70 stealth.

The radeon r7 260 and 260x may be faster per dollar compared to the gtx 750 and 750ti but in the end I am pretty sure the gtx 750 and 750ti are going to outsell them. Nvidia may have a new 8800gt/9800gt on hand (but for different reasons than the original 8800gt)

260X is 10$ cheaper. And the 265 cant be bought yet.

Simply humiliates everything.

Amazed Nvidia got basically a node shrink off maxwell.
 
The GTX660 uses a single PCI-E power connector.

The worst thing is the R9 270 and GTX660 cost the same as the GTX750TI in the UK(£120 to £135),and as a result does not seem as well received as in the US. Recently we had HD7850 cards even going for as low as £90 a few weeks ago too and GTX650TI Boost 2GB cards could be had for £100 too.

The GTX660 and HD7850 have low enough power requirements to run off a decent 300W to 400W PSU too.

Ultimately the GTX660 and R9 270 cards are going to be better buys for DIY builds,as they will probably last longer.
